Just reading the tow package install for another member. I came across etrailers video installing a standalone cooler for the transmission. What i was thinking is that if the extra cooler is added infront of the original transmission cooler and a/c radiator... Seems like the area where it is installed at is not the best spot. Because your taking away alot more heat with the aftermarket cooler then basically slowing down the heat transfer of the stock cooler. So i was thinking if the KJs and KKs have on aftermarket bumpers, they could install the aftermarket cooler infront of the power steering cooler and fabricate a bracket to hold the aftermarket cooler on. Just add on a smaller fan with a switch connected to it for watter crossings. Seems like a better spot. What do you guys think? Am I over complicating things or bringing something new to the table? |

What Tom said. But I have seen guy do all kinds of stuff with "remote coolers" in fact, a buddy is building a FJ40, we put the tranny cooler behind the rear axle and put a fan on it. Works great |

Works great Yea, I was thinking the same thing as you two. But at the same time I was looking at the jeep to see where it could be possible to add one if needed. The only issue with the rear axle location would be it consistently moving unless it's bolted to the body and the possibility of hitting high boulders. I was thinking of this briefly because the last time I was down south my transmission kept throwing the temp light. Every time I'd shut the jeep down the light would turn off for a few hours. I was thinking was just a fluke because the whole time I was down there I was jeepin it real hard in the mud and considers the idea of most of the temp sensors, were being insulated by the layers of mud. Since have had no issue. |

Your problem and for every KJ/KK with the 42RLE trans is the stand alone trans cooler from the factory. You never hear of these issues with '02 KJ's with the in-radiator trans coolers from the factory. |
