![]() My newly lifted jeep, she's got the JBA 3.5 inch lift, with Kuhmo RoadVenture tires and kept my stock 16 rims. Wanted to know if anyone put handle bars on there jeep on the driver and passenger sides to make getting in and out easier. I'm 5'10 so i personally dont have a problem but i thought it would be a nice thing to have. |

I'm 5'10, and never had a problem. Installing rock sliders did make it easier though. You can step on them, then step in. I recommend ATH's... Lift looks good. The tires looks like 32s, am I right? |

Looking again...I see NY plates. Are you in the Massapequa/Amityville area? If it's the area I'm thinking then it's the fields over by Toys R' Us and the mall. |

Not doing so works the engine harder transmission works harder and lessens the life of it better mileage better fuel mileage etc Its a must when going to 32s |

I decided with 4.56 gears to go with my 32's. My gas milage isn't too bad, ~17-19 highway, but if you got a lead foot, yours will take a hit with these. I looked into getting a hypertech, but they only go up to the 2010 model year. darn Chrysler. I've come to terms with driving the speed limit lol. Crusing on the highway at 65 on my gps, I'm running just over 3000 rpm with the economy light still on. I'm going to a dealership on Monday to calibrate the speedometer, abs, and etc. They said the computer might not take the calibrations and will get charged either way... I wish I could've gone with a 4.27 gear set, but I've only seen them for the D30 CJ/ZJ (that shouldn't make a difference though right?) and D44 axle. Only options are the 4.10 and 4.56 for the Liberty 8.25 rear. Anyone here swap there rear-end for a D44 lol? Might do it if the price is right and compatible. |

I'd be interested to hear how your appointment at the dealer goes. I've been lifted for almost 60,000 miles now and am still dealing with the ESP engagement issue. Scar0 and others report that having the dealer calibrate the speedometer and reset the steering angle sensor have pretty much solved it for them. Like you, I don't have complete faith in the dealer's ability to do those things properly, as the request is pretty out of the box compared to regular maintenance that they're used to doing. |

Actually with 32s about 4.25 or so would be about right I wish it was easier to go to 4.56s in the KJs, would've been done a LONG time ago. With a lot of the roads I am on and pulling trailers etc it would be perfect Good luck at the dealership, I was lucky enough to have a Jeep tech do my rear gears and take care of that who is a friend |

Is there any hard data to support this re-gearing business? I just installed the 3.5 inch lift from JBA, and put on 32 inch tires. I actually ordered the 4.10 gears and install kits, but after having it torn down, the shop realized that the gears that were shipped to me were for the wrong rear end. So now I am out $350 for labor, and $120 for a rental car. I am back to driving my KK, and yes, it is a little sluggish, but just how much faster am I going to wear out a trans or engine??? And if all would have gone according to plan, and the 410's installed, how many rpm's would I be tacking up driving down the hwy???? This KK is mostly a mall crawler, located in a very flat area near sea level in Maryland. Sorry to hijack the tread, just wondering if its really worth it. |

Totally worth it IMO I drove mine a week before I had the 4.10s installed after going to 32s, could not stand to drive it at all Was living up Northwestern part of Ohio then where its like a pancake, but even slightest grade and it would downshift Almost removed the tires, but after 4.10s power/ mileage / driveability back to almost normal Doing another build now and will be going to 4.10s and 265-70-16s this time, ( which will be even better ) I have always regeared all of my builds for over 40 years, while guys that didn't complained about power and mileage I just kept driving Was always fun on road trips to start out at the back and as soon as we hit hills, they'd start going slower and slower and with no issues I'd cruise on by These engines have a somewhat narrow power band, keeping it in that range doesn't work the engine or trans so hard |

Let's assume no premature wear on the engine or transmission and just look at gas consumption. For example, let's say you were getting an average of 18 mpg with stock size 29 inch tires. After going to 32's you could be down at about 14 mpg. Some folks who have run 32's will know what they were getting before regearing, but let's assume a loss of 4 mpg from stock. If you drive 20,000 miles a year like me, and gas costs $2.50 a gallon over that time, the total cost would be 20,000 / 18 * 2.50 = $2,788 in gas costs over the year. At 14 mpg this cost increases to $3,571, which is $794 a year more in gas costs. If regearing costs you about $1500, you will have paid it off in a little less than 2 years assuming the gear ratio got you close to stock mpg again. If gas goes up to $4 a gallon like it was a few years ago, you will pay it off much faster, and your wallet will thank you later. When factoring in extra wear and tear (your engine and transmission feeling like you are driving uphill all the time), I think it makes financial sense to regear with 32's. Your enjoyment of driving will also be higher if the Jeep doesn't feel like a slug when you want it to respond quickly or drive up hills without down shifting all the time. I have 30.5 inch tires on mine and have not regeared, but I have definitely considered the idea of going to 4.10's. I removed my roof basket to gain back a couple of mpg's and the negative effect of the larger tires has become less noticeable. |

Here is my KK's lifetime mpg record from Fuelly.com (click the link on my signature for more info). ![]() The peaks are long trips that are all highway miles, and the valleys are tanks of gas burned completely in the city. You can see the overall effect of various mods at certain dates: Roof basket added on 12/12 4 inch lift installed on 3/13 29's replaced with 30.5's on 8/13 Roof basket removed on 6/15 |
