TIA I want to service the rear differential on my wife's 08 Liberty Limited. Aside from removing the spare tire, is there anything else that needs to be removed to take off the differential cover? The Panhard bar and some other bar [the name is slipping my mind] that runs very close to the cover look like they might be in the way. If anyone has serviced one please let me know. |

Shouldn't need to remove the spare, some of the bolts are a little tough to get to with the track bar but doable. If it's in the way for some of the bolts you can just jack it up by the body to drop the bar a little. |

Thanks. Track bar, that's the name that totally slipped my mind! I was hoping to drive it up 4 ramps with the spare tire out. The track bar doesn't seem to be in the way of the bolts, but it looks like it won't allow the cover to come off depending on how deep the gears are into the cover. I'll just hang the rear then. |

Its your sway bar. Easy to move if you feel it is in the way. Just remove and discard. Not needed. |

The bar I'm referring to is about a 1" square/rectangular bar which runs a few inches down from the top of the cover and is very close to it. Isn't the sway bar the round bar? That isn't in the way. |

Others may do what they like with the sway bar, but mine is staying "on" for the reason is was put it there by the Mfgr. in the first place. Safety. |

Mine is staying too. I'll hang the wheels and be done with it. Thanks for the replies. |

FWIW I was able to install an ARB cover with wheels on the ground and everything still attached. I don't remember but I may have unbolted and hung the sway bar back though to get a bit more room during install. If you are planning on going off road at all, I would look at a diff cover with drain/fill holes both for protection and ease of service. |

I changed the fluid in my 09 without removing anything or dropping the axle. Its easy. I need to replace the pinion seal again though. |
