I have the factory 17" rims and going to get a set of duratracs. 245/70/17.

They only seem to make this size with load p or e.

I know most say to go with load capacity but you think I can get away with the p's or do I have to go with the e?

P isn't a load rating though... P means it's designing for use on passenger vehicles.
I don't know if the Duratracs are available in load range C for 245/70/17 but I wouldn't get E's.
Too heavy and not necessary plus the ride quality will suffer.

The lighter version of the Goodyear Duratrac is: 245/70R17 with a load index of 110 which equals 2337 load-carrying capacity.
This would be similar to a Load Range "C" tire.
"S" is the speed rating = 112 mph
Look for 245/70R17 110S on the sidewall!
Goodyear's Product Code for this tire is: 150675601

The heavier version of the Goodyear Duratrac is: 245/70R17 with a load index of 116 which equals 2756 load-carrying capacity.
This would be like an Load Range "E" tire.
"Q" is the speed rating = 99 mph
245/70R17 116Q on the sidewall!

My bad... yes it's a p-metric tire. It's sl rated.

Thank you for above. I decided I'm going to go with the lighter version as 90% or the time I'll be on pavement.

Read around and a lot of others with jeeps and similar vehicles go with the p-metric tire as well.

Just be aware you will have less rubber(less tread depth) on the P-metric tire and harder rubber compound(most P-metrics have a mileage warranty).Putting the load range E tire next to the P-metric you will see a huge difference. The P-metric is not as robust also and generally does not handle offroad very well, more so if you air down, much weaker sidewalls.
