June long w/end, NT style

G'day every one, just some pics from our long weekend at Edith River, NT. Some 4x4 river crossings, camping in the river bed, a bit of fishing, swimming, snatching (?), that sort of thing! Lots of fun. The Jeep was loaded with 4 adults, 2 complete camps for 2 couples, but we managed with the roof basket and careful packing! I have some video but not sure how to let you view it (actually, vid of the jeep stuck in the creek!) but no major dramas, i could have got out by myself, eventually!

Very nice photos. I take it there were no Crocs about? So would a diff locker have helped get out of that creek?

probably crocs in the deep water pools a couple of hundred metres either side of the camp. Where we camped and swam was sandy, shallow flowing clear water, very safe to swim, everyone was aware of possible crocs in the deepwater (where my Son in law caught his fish for instance, you see the deepwater in the background) so stay away from the edge as much as posible. The station owners had seen a 2 metre freshwater croc where we crossed, and we saw its eyes at night. Saw no slides in the sand up in the deepwater, but thats not proof of no Crocs! Just gotta be aware around water.
Lockers would have done it i'm sure,though there was a fair jump up for the front wheels to get over, and not enough flex was probably the issue. I could have given some more right foot but trying not to dig up a property owners river bank, and with more vehicles to follow, (which i'm glad to say a landcrusher got stuck as well) so just took the easy way out for the sake of proprietry and got snatched out half a metre forward and drove out the rest of the way.

looks like an awsome spot and being private you wouldn't have crowds of people either, just out of curousity did
you have your tyre's down to 15psi, it looks quite sandy and dusty, bit like the beach here really. That Barra looks
good, my father in law keeps reminding me that he has caught one and that I haven't.

Yeah, dropping tyres would have helped as well, we are a slack bunch at times! Thought : "She'll be right!"
Nice little Barra, he was stoked, we hooked a couple on the weekend and i landed a big catfish (but we don't count them), so when you are next up this way you had better try harder!

Beautiful spot, like many around the Top End if you know where to look. I'm in one of the local 4x4 club, so private entry to a number of propertys is always good, no crowds either.

Flood debris in the trees was amazing, every where , in fact dangerous in a big wind i reckon, careful where we set up camp as just about every tree had a big log or bunch of stuff hung up in it!

A couple of weeks ago we were on the Douglas river and there was a 44 gallon drum perched nicely in the fork of a tree! , abot 20 feet up! (forgot the camera that weekend!) but we'll be back there soon.
