hey guys, if anyone's interested i'm heading upto the 'gans on sunday with a few guys to tackle some tracks... i've still go slicks on so it will be somewhat friendly however a lift (or good tyres no lift) will probably be necessary... if anyone's interested send me a text 0416224669.. .don't pm me as i'll probably not be online over the weekend cars with us are a stock patrol, and 2 defenders (one stock, the others a bit of a softroader running 35's lol). where not to sure where we'll end up yet. cheers Stephen |

hey guys, got out of the trip mostly unhurt Highlight: its always great to hear a guy in a 100series with a 6" lift come over the radio about the AMAZING rear travel of the KJ (with STU's lift) it really did make a difference i was able to go up so many climbs that i wouldn't have been able to attempt previously, the height at the front is good, but the rear travel makes it so much stronger... tested out using part-time 4wd on the clay, worked so much better than Low with the low grip - really recommend this for those climbing clay wet hills with long travel rear shocks (and no lockers ) had a interesting moment where the electro fan was vibrating so loudly that i stopped the car, lifted the bonnet and the whole cowling was vibrating with the fan hitting it... easy to switch it off its the small wiring loom entering into the cowling, ran without if for the rest of the day wihtout it no dramas... turns out that a small chunk of clay mud had dried on it and disrupted the balance, or at least i hope that's what it was as i washed the car out when i got home, powered it back up and didn't have a problem with it. great day out... got some video coming of me beached with three wheels rotating (i wasn't in the car)... had to get snatched out within about 2 minutes of entering watagans but made it through the rest of the day pretty much ok... definately need to get rid of the road tyres and get something real... just got to wait for some $$$$. my next trip with some mates will be up in the blue mountains (led by a local) so we should get some interesting trails... not your normal lithgow/zigzag stuff, i'll announce it closer to the date. cheers oh and whats the easiest way to clean a mud filled snatch strap? was going to hose it out and put it in the washing machine... |

Good to know you had a great day. Not sure what you mean, talking about "Part-time" INSTEAD of "Low". "Part-time" means that the centre diff is locked and front and rear driveshafts are always turning at the same rate, and that is the case regardless of whether the transfer case is in "High" or "Low". "Full-time" means that the centre diff is open and the front and rear driveshafts can turn at different rates to allow for the fact that the front wheels ALWAYS travel further than the rear wheels (except in a dead straight line!), so "Full-time" prevents wind-up on high grip (bitumen) surfaces. |

Probably my confusion is due to the fact that I drive a manual which does not have Full-time, but I thought the options were 2wd, 4wd Hi Full-time, 4wd Hi Part-time, and 4wd Lo which will always be a Part-time setting. So maybe you are saying you were using Part-time Hi rather than Part-time Lo: this would put less torque to the wheels which could possibly minimise slip in greasy conditions. Can another auto driver help me out here? |

hi mate, yeah you're probably right, coupled with road tyres full of mud a bit less torque probably helped.... i'd love a manual but sydney peakhour would kill me in it... so D works great cheers |

Lets see the pics.... smorison and yeah as an auto driver i have found that a little less torque is sometimes a good thing in the mud....especially with road tyres. |
