That seems to be the problem for Phoenix generally. For those not here the term used is 'heat island' and it has become such a problem that Phoenix has been getting less and less of the cooling monsoon rains the past few years. It works like this: the high heat rising up from metro Phoenix creates a barrier to incoming systems that cannot be broken through.

Growing up in the southeast I don't remember overnight temps in the hundreds. No matter how hot it got during the day it started cooling off once the sun went down.

Well we had what was described as a cold front come through last night. It seems to have broken the 105 to 110 degree days we have had for the last two weeks. They are only forcasting a high of 97 today. Yipee!

It is already around 90 here at 9:30. Think I will lay low in the basement and stay a little cooler. Perhaps this PM would be a good time to see a movie in an air conditioned theater!

Haha, i knew it may be correct. Its just that nothing compared to what everyone else has been seeing. We get 100 degree weather with 115 index. I was poking fun in other words.

Its looking good for the next week though!! Its not going to hit 90 for the next 2 weeks!

90's here in the Puget Sound area. Wet heat.

There are so many "Wanted: Portable A/C unit for apartment/condo" ads on the Seattle Craigslist it's hilarious.

My parents and the CRD are in Wenatchee...good 10-15 degrees hotter over there. At least pretty much every residence there (even trailers & crappy apartments) has A/C.

Really, that was at about one in the morning. Trust me, I've been to Phoenix when it was 117, hell hath no fury like an Arizona summer.

Yeah, the humidity makes the difference. Up to around 105 anything less than about 20%RH is OK, after that it starts to feel hotter than it actually is. Above 110 it happens at around 15%RH. And if you're riding a motorcycle in the middle of the day forget it! Above 90F the wind speed actually starts to make it feel hotter, so 105F + 30%RH + 70mph wind heating factor =125F apparent tempaerature  Down in Yuma (extreme SW corner of the state) they have the Colorado river running thru and when the humidity starts to climb this time of year it is common for them to get heat indicies as high as 130F

Yes, you are in hell. Say hello to the locals for me. Wish they would have let me finish my job in '91.

Is "over here" Iraq? If so I'm gonna have to call BS on that 80%+humidity. I was in the Middle East in the early 80s and while it did break 120 during the day the RH stayed in the mid-20's to mid-30's. And when the sun when down it would drop down into the high 60'-low 70's. Losing 50 degrees farenheit in about 45 minutes made 70 degrees feel bone-chilling.

Of course there's more than the weather to make a place hell.....

Coming back from Vegas yesterday, it hit 120F (wished I was in Big Bear). Went through a thunderstorm & the temp went down to 85F. As soon as we passed it, it shot up to 121 F. (got to see a lightning strike set a hillside on fire!).
