Same here. Paperwork says flashed with latest PCM flash. If that's correct, it didn't fix the shudder. What I am noticing is engine detuning. Turbo lag is higher than before the flash. Engine power is smooth, but comes on much slower. Definitely less low end grunt.

Did you notice any engine power loss when yours was flashed?

My invoice has two seperate reflashes listed, one for the ECM and one for the TCM. I have not noticed any loss of power but I am noticing more "clunkyness" of the transmission at highway speeds when I'm on and off the throttle - could just be the eventual MOPAR transmission failure on it's way.

As for power, half pedal down for the first second or two gets past the turbo spool up lag and the EPA emissions de-tune for initial burst of pollution, then let her rip by increasing throttle depression. Seems to have almost the same effect as hammer down on an older car without all the computer/turbo crap to deal with.

Back the brakes thing. Having only owned Mercedes-Benz cars in the past, I expect a lot from the bakes. Anytime I drive my moms Civic I think I am going to die (Those are bad brakes).

When I first started driving the Liberty I thought the brakes were to soft and did not like them. In a panic situation (Deer in road) when I had to slam on them they became very firm and they impressed me. Anyway I like them now not as much as the Mercedes but far better than most other cars I have drivin.
I know what you mean about the MB brakes, got to love those big puppies. It is one of the things about my Magnum I like, it's basically an MB with sexy Dodge body and has some really excellent MB brakes. The only thing I have against the Liberty is they seem ulta sensitive compared to my MB's and Magnum when doing slow speed stops.

As for as my Japanese vehicles went the brakes were real thrill makers and heart stoppers. However what I always got a laugh at were people who drive them thinking they have great brakes and excellent handling. I did a side by side test with a friends new (then) '04 Nissan Max vs my old W123 240D twice and he was both times about 2 1/2 car lengths in front when we got stopped.

I think the brakes are a bit awkward when you arent used to them yet. I think they work really well though even if they are a bit sensitive in slow speed situations. I havnt really thought about this before and dont have the CRD with me to go look, but do we have vacuum assist brakes via a vacuum pump or are they hydraulic assist like some diesels I have seen?

The wife is at work so I can't say for sure, but I think I remember a vacuum booster with hose running to the vacuum pump. However not having been concerned with that I don't remember for sure and I'm too lazy to look it up in the FSM to be sure.

There is a vaccume pump driven off the fan belt, provides vaccume for both the brakes and the VGT turbo controller.

Old Navy I could not have said it any better. I don't want to dog on Japanese cars but, it seems to me all they do is make the Gas and Brake petals really touchy this makes owners think they have a excellent handling. Touchy is excellant, a petal that is smooth but firm all the way threw it's range of motion is what I define is excellant.

By the way are you the same old navy we used to buy the wheel assist tools from? My best friends dad is the owner of Mercedessource.com. It would be really cool if you could make the same assist tool but for the Jeep.

It's me, it's me, I'm ON and yes I was guilty of the wheel assist tools.

I'm not sure, as I haven't had them off yet, but I believe the Liberty has stud's and does not use bolt's like the German cars. I have recommended Mercedessource.com to quite a few people and even a couple people here on the lost. :)

As long as we're getting reaquainted, you're the Old Navy from TDI Club too? I am the artist formally known as Joe B on the TDI Club forums. What ever happened to Valois? Is he still pushing the chip? Great guy to do business with, IMHO, but I haven't seen his name on there in a while. Maybe he's driving a Jeep.

Yup, guilty as charged. :)

I am not sure, as I stay in the fuel/oil/biofuel section and other then VW diesel section now days. I guess he is still around, but I'm not sure.

Had the tires off today. At least the 2006s have studs.

Less low end grunt? That gets me thinking, if they are worried about high torque wear on tranny and torque converter, why wouldn't they cut power down? I wonder if that is what their plan is just to cut its balls off.

I just read here
http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/WebX?14@@.ef1454f/6897
That since our crd's torque is at such a low RPM the transmission pump is not turning fast enough to supply proper fluid pressure to keep the clutches locked. It also says there has just been a new pump released for the problem.

If a new pump is needed to keep the clutches from slipping and subsequently burning, why not a recall and replace all the pumps?

I disagree. I have had the latest reflash of the TCM and ECM released just a few weeks ago, and I still have the shudder. The reflash does not fix it.

What exactly is the "shudder"?

I've noticed overall that when it (2006 LJ Ltd) is in 4x4 full time there is subtle, but noticeable vibration that isn't there in 2x mode. Also, in 4x4 full time I've had a couple of extremely violent shifts at about 20mph. I thought I ran over a brick.
