I am obviously one year off on getting a Liberty. I can find 2005 receiver hitches all over the place but no luck with a 2006. I would like one of these thinks to put a removable winch into. Anybody got any sources?

I have been searching. I have not found anything but one site that said that some cutting was necessary and they stopped there. There was no indiction as to what cutting was needed or anything. Much less what mount was put in.

Working on my 79 Ramcharger has been easier. Have y'all tried to find parts for one of those beasts?

Basically what you need to cut is a square hole just big enough for the reciever in the plastic bumper right where the front license plate holder goes. If you need to have a front license plate where you are at all you have to do is cut a hole in the plastic plate holder and when you get off road remove your license plate and there's your hitch for the winch.

No tag needed. Thanks. But putting a tag over the hitch would be a great way to keep dirt out when the hitch is not needed. I am probably thinking too much.

I installed the Hidden Hitch receiver like seen on the allJ site on my '06. Like stated previously, the installation instructions are available on that site as well.
Installation is easy although you need to drill two holes in the chasis. Once installed, the receiver opening on my particular vehicle tucked right up several inches above the bumper. I carved out an area in the bumper just big enough to clear inserting something into the receiver.
Someone else who has done the same installation here on this forum has pics, however they didn't do any cutting, just pressed the lower edge of the bumper over the top edge of the receiver. For whatever reason, my bumper must sit a little lower, therefore I had to do the cutting.

It's an easy install and takes about 5 minutes careful carving to get a nice notch in the bumper that the front license plate covers up again. The ends of the receiver end up in the places that the original DC tow hooks go, so you can just weld some iron on the receiver to give you additional places to move your shackles to also for different pull points as needed.

I appreciate the post to the HiddenHitch front receiver BUT the instructions as a pdf file will not open. Any suggestions?

Looking at the Hiddenhitch web site does not indicate they have any such part.

I just installed one on my 2006 CRD last week. Bought it from hitchfinder.com for approx 123 plus shipping. She said they had 5 at the time I ordered. I did not use the online ordering and called to make sure they had one in stock. It was a reese with the two hoops and class III. I did have to cut the bumer for the receiver portion of the hitch.

They might still have a couple...good luck.

Looking for a front hitch for our 2006 Jeep liberty.

Where are various hitches made?

Which brand and number hitch is the best?

CURT Trailer Hitch #31022

CURT Trailer Hitch #13044

Any other brands or recommendations?

I bought the Curt 31022. It says 1/2 to 1 hour installation time. Found out that is for most 2006 Liberties but not mine or some others. If the front of your Jeep looks like this:
http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt ... KUBEPwdMAo

It will take more time to install. The other style front end is a direct bolt on with little other work. This style front end involves some cutting on the bumper cover.
