I'm planning a conservation run to be done at the same time as the end of September meeting/run. The weekend I've coordinated for with the Forestry Service is the weekend of the 23rd/24th. The Forestry Service will be providing trash bags and may come out to meet us. He's also given me list of places he would like for us to hit. All the places he recommended were off of Gold Camp Road, so it's an area we're familiar with. Obviously, we're going to want max participation for this since this will give us a good name with the Forestry Service (always a good thing  )

I have a 3'x5' trailer I will be bringing with me but the last time I took at look around up there, it might be a good idea for you to bring your's as well. We may be filling both of them.

As far as the time is concerned, I haven't set a time yet and probably won't set a time until we get much closer to the actual date.

We're all set up for the run. I'll be stopping by the Forestry Service office next week to pick up the supplies and to do a face-to-face. I was thinking that we would do this on Saturday the 23rd. I figure we'll meet up on the south side of town (maybe in the Tinsletown parking lot) at 9am then head up to Eagle Rock/Saran Wrap to start the project. How does this sound to everybody?

I would love to participate. But I need to replace my brakes before hand. I have the new pads, it's just a question of making time. Maybe next spring? I will have more free time come April.

What brakes do you need done? Does your KJ have disc front and rear? Do you have the pads and rotors? Bring it by sometime this weekend. I'll help you get them done. We can knock out a pair of pads and rotors in less than half an hour.

All the help we can get, the better. Unlike some of our recent trail runs, this is one that maximum participation is most appreciated if at all possible, even if it is just for a very short time. Eagle Rock and Saran Wrap are not stock friendly by any means, but nothing wrong with riding shotgun to get a new experience of what a more difficult trail is all about. We aren't just going up there to wheel though. There is plenty of stocker friendly areas that need some work. I'll let Pete give out all the actual details on the areas we will be focusing on, but I'm pretty sure it won't just be up the hard trails.

Pete, is this a two day thing, or just on Saturday the 23rd? How long is this planned to take? What are plans for after the cleanup?

Thanks for the offer to help with the brakes. It is disc, front and rear. I was told by Faricy that the pads were down to 3/32 and needed to be replaced by the next oil change. And since I have gone to the bigger meats since then, I figure I should get it done sooner rather than later. Besides that, I will be going hunting up in Wyoming in a little over a week, so again better safe than sorry. Since the Lib only has 40K on it, I figured I would just swap the pads and leave the rotors alone. First brake job on a libby for me, so I am not entirely sure what is involved with getting the rotors off for turning.

Besides that I need to do a little more clearancing work. The pinch welds up front need to be bent down at least.

So, if the run is Saturday morning, when were you thinking of helping out? Saturday night? Sunday? Let me know, I really appreciate the offer.

The Saturday cleanup is next weekend, so I was thinking we could do it this weekend. Pads and rotors are easy, it's the drum brakes that I hate. Clearancing can be done at the same time when the wheels are off, and I have a minisledge that loves to clearance inner pinch welds. Give me a call if you want: 719-360-7414.

I shouldn't have to work that weekend so I'm in and will bring my trailer to help haul the trash out.Pete is it going to be okay to leave my trailer close to the trail head? I don't think I'd do to well on the trail with it attached  .

I had only planned this for one day (Sat) but we can extend it out to two days if there is that much trash to pick up. Some of the places I had planned to hit are not stocker friendly but, as said above, this would be a great time to do a ride-along. Not only does this allow you to see some of the things a KJ can do, but, it also allows you to jump out to pick up some trash as we go down the trail. I had planned on leaving my trailer at the clearing near the beginning of Eagle Rock/Saran Wrap and coming back for it after the run. So, if some people want to leave their stockers at the same place, I'd appreciate it (not as likely to get Troy's/my trailers stolen). Also, there are a few places we've been asked to hit that are stocker friendly (lower 1/2 of Mt. Baldy). I figured we would work out the details when we met, but, Eagle Rock connects to the lower half of Mt. Baldy and Saran Wrap connects to Eagle Rock. To do all 3 trails would take us well into the night. That means we'd have to either spend 2 days doing this, split into groups, or not do all 3 trails. The Forestry Service is ecstatic that we're doing anything at all so no worries about disappointing them. The more I think about it, I think spreading this out over two days is asking a bit much for our first conservation run especially of the guys that don't live in the Springs area. Splitting into two groups would be great if we have enough people turn up (>6 vehicles) but that would limit the coverage of particular areas. So let's keep it simple this time around and just do the Eagle Rock/Mt. Baldy areas on Saturday.

Let's meet in the Tinseltown parking lot (1545 E. Cheyenne Mountain Blvd. Colorado Springs, CO 80906) between 8:30 and 9:00. We will leave promptly at 9:15. Please try not to be late as this is going to be a long day, but, if you are running late, we'll be monitoring CB Ch. 12/FRS Ch. 12 (no sub-channel). Bring gloves, water, munchies, snivel-gear (cold/wet weather gear), and camp chairs. We shouldn't need any additional trash bags as the Forestry Service is providing them ... Also, remember we're having our monthly meeting at the same time as this.

This is great. If we split into two groups, it would probably be the most efficient.

If we have people that really want to do this but cannot go on Saturday, would it be possible for one group on Sat to hit one area and another on Sun to hit another if someone wanted to be the focal point for a Sunday team?

What do you all think?

1...2...3... Not it :!: :P I go on Saturday...

Thanks again Pete, Great job!
