I'm pretty sure the TT manual is referring to the shaft of the pinion gear. They should have called it the pinion gear or drive shaft. If the actual pinion shaft inside the differential were immobilized, then the wheels would have to turn in the same direction. But since the TT doesn't have an actual pinion shaft it's a moot point. I'd email Detroit and see if they can give you any tips/suggestions. They should know it better than anyone else.

Thanks guys. Seems everyone is confused as I am...I am sure they are referring to the drive shaft when the they say pinion. I guess I'd have to get all 4 wheels off the ground while in 4 wheel drive to figure this out completely. Too much work...I'm just gonna call it good!

Best test is to light the wheels up...you will feel it pulling back and forth...then you know it is working.

Did you notice whether or not your driveshaft turned when you did this?

I think I can see why they would turn in opposite directions....definantly a lot different that a trac-lock diff isnt it? I would like to see just how things work, guess that gives me a good reason to buy one right?

Front driveshaft was stationary or the front wheels will spin the same way.
