STOP USING MOBIL ONE!!! they changed it, its no longer all synthetic, so you are wasting your money.

i have used nothing but mobil 1 since the breakin oil change, but they recently changed the base on many of their grades to mostly conventional .

DO NOT use the extended performance ones, they are the most notable culprits.

i will be using only amsoil products from now on
Got anything to back that statement up with?
yes i do, http://www.crownvic.net/ubbthreads/show ... art=1&vc=1

one of the guys even burned a sample and found it uses mineral oil base stock

and the bottle doesnt say its 100% synthetic, it says its made with synthetic technology if im not mistaken. and yes feel free to go ahead and get pissed off at Mobil like everyone else, they ARE ripping you off

If you REALLY want to get into discussing oil and filters go to www.bobistheoilguy.com and click on oil forums. Warning: Some of these guys spend a little too much time thinking about this stuff.
I am currently running Pennzoil Platinum Plus 5W/30 synthetic with Motorcraft filter @ 6,000 mile change intervals.

So what you guys are saying is that Mobil 1 "fully synthetic" is not synthetic but Amsoil is? But you sell Amsoil. I guess I need to do some research into ALL oil brands.

i dont sell any oil i dont know where you got that from

brain washed? they burned a sample and it was mostly conventional oil. and you are still only going to possibly get 7500 miles out of the extended version of mobil one's mixed oil. most of the amsoil ones are rated for 25k. there is no comparison or debate possible that could support using mobil zero.

What if some people are uneasy about going a whole year without changing the oil? Even if Mobil1 is a lie - some people still might take comfort from the fact that they are buying the best oil available (readilly available that is) when they do an oil change. There is no way I want to spend that kind of money on oil for sure but somepeople, myself included, still get comfort from the fact that the engine is clean and so is the oil filter because of the frequent change interval...

For the record, I do not know jcphoto and I do not agree with everything he is saying.
I question why, if he is such an Amsoil loyalist, he uses Lucas additives w/ his Amsoil products? Amsoil formulates their product just fine w/out spending extra money on additional additives and they strongly suggest Not adding anything additional to their lubes.

FWIW, from the Mobil site:
Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil
"You've never seen an oil like this before. Mobil 1® Extended Performance is a high-endurance motor oil designed for longer service intervals. It is a fully synthetic formulation that helps extend engine life, reduce oil breakdown and minimize engine wear -- all while helping to keep your engine clean. Improvements that add up to exceptional protection for 15,000 miles. Guaranteed. "

Mobil 1, Plain old version (reformulated)
"Mobil 1, the world's leading synthetic motor oil exceeds the industry’s toughest standards and outperforms all conventional oils. In fact, many car builders put Mobil 1 in their vehicles before they leave the factory. And it is used by more than 70 percent of teams in the three NASCAR® series. "

Yes, even they are not calling the old Mobil 1 a full synthetic on their site. They are finally saying you can go up to 15,000 miles on their newer "Extended Performance" version however, in their warranty they state:"For vehicles covered by a warranty, follow the vehicle's oil life sensor or the oil change interval recommended in your owner's manual."

Funny how when Mobil marketed their synthetic oil back in 1974 (a couple years after Amsoil was on the market) they claimed an up to 25,000 mile service interval but quickly changed that back to whatever the manufacturer suggested yet they still claimed "nothing outperforms Mobil 1". Funny how they are outperformed in testing against Amsoil products time and time again.

Amsoil's warranty states they will cover any failure caused by their product regardless of manufacturer warranty or mfg recommended lube change interval. This has been their policy since 1972 and they have yet to lose a claim of failure due to extended service intervals with the use of Amsoil products.

I find it funny how some people always have to have the best of whatever for their vehicles until they get to the topic of oil and filters. It seems they will spend for the best stereo, the best tires & rims, best lift, etc, etc, yet they won't spend the same amount or possibly Less for proven better lube and filter products. Maybe it is the fact that you can't walk into a store and buy it? Is placing an order online or by phone and having it delivered to your door step not convenient enough? (Except for you people in Hawaii   )

I will admit that other than Amsoil, Mobil 1 and a couple other aftermarket style performance lubes, are decent lube products but they are Not the best and they are leading you astray w/ their advertising claims. ExxonMobil answers to their shareholders not to their customers and they claimed a $39.5 billion profit last year, which is the largest ever for a US company.
I guess they can afford to say whatever they want in their advertising claims.

From the side by side comparison in my local Napa store, the difference is in the cheapness of interior parts on the Fram.

I've used Motul Synthetic from Day 1. 5W30 or 5W40

Fram filters are made from cardboard... There are a few horror stories floating around on the interent of the cardboard collapsing (while the engine is running) and then preventing oil from flowing through the engine. I haven't ever had this happen when I used fram filters - but now I just stick to brand specific filters

Mustang - Motorcraft filters
Liberty - Mopar filters

Because if it was good enough to come from the factory than it has to be good enough to use all the time. Right :D

And why is using a "cheap oil" and changing it all the time so bad? If all of the cars in the past didn't have access to all of the high quality oils made today but were still able to drive well past 100K miles - why would someone want to change from what is proven to work? I'm not trying to be argumenitive but if all of the cars in the 80s and 90s were able to survive regular oil what is the huge reason behind spending all of that extra money? Sure the tolerances on newer cars requires thinner oil - but a cheaper synthetic oil can be used and still changed at regular intervals to ensure proper lubrication and bearing protection...

Yes, but you can spend about the same or less overall using higher quality synthetics and filters that protect better for longer which saves time and money. Doing that also equals less waste and peace of mind knowing you have the best products in your vehicle.

That is a valid point... Maybe it's just me being stubourn? Maybe I just like to have an excuse to get out tools and lay underneath my cars in the summer? Ah who knows.

I started a thread about the amsoil.... more of a fact finding thread than anything. Perhaps we can bring the amsoil discussion there?

That may be true if you plan on keeping it like you say, but the majority of us while in the beginning, may plan on keep it till the wheel sfall off, but we in the end trade them in before they have 150,000 miles on them, and if that is the case, it really doesn't matter what brand you put in them as long as do regular oil changes. WOW!!! What a run-on sentence.

Oh-oh, so now mobil one is bad, and fram filters are bad. So I guess I'll have to stop using them cause I wouldn't want to hurt my old jeep - after all it has 208,000 miles using Mobil One and Fram filters exclusively.

I used fram filters for a long time :? But when you actually put one to the test the do sorta suck compared to others. Its amazing the crap some engines will put up with though, I have had plenty of vehicles go over 150K on fram filters and mobil, or pennzoil non syn. And that was with 5-7.5K oil changes after they were broke in. These will get a lot of folks by just fine, But there is better out there.
