aPriell3, they attach to the unibody rail with two brackets, one front one rear, and there is a little support that goes from this bracket directly to the unibody above it.. they do not attach to the pinch weld at all and I personally do not reccomend buying them.n They came stock on my Renny and didn't last long.

Edit: Woohoo, I just made KJ Junkie!

Looks like the rails did their job, though. And no modifications to the body. Remember, drilling holes in the body may end your "outer body rust through" warranty. If I ever take the rails off, it's back to stock KJ w/higher resale/trade in value.

To each their own, for my purposes, the Mopar rails are better.

Just curious, how fast were you going to have the pole hit the middle of the rail like that? Looks like a lot of air time before it hit the rail.

That's not how it happened, I was crawling at about 1mph. What happened was there were 3 logs involved. My front and rear tires where up on 2 and the third was in the middle.... Went forward and the front and rear tires come off their logs at the same time and my rail ends up on the third one.. my fault for not seeing the situation I was in, but the rails should have held up. Also, with the stock rails, you allready have holes in your body where they mount.

I was just like you before, I thought the stock rails would do fine. Like you said, they did protect my body, but had I hit much harder I don't think they would have. The rail is bent so bad, it's almost flat in the middle, so I don't think hammering it straight again is really an option. Obviously, stick with what you want, but don't think that the stock rails can take much abuse. Learn from my mistake!

One would think that an after marketeer would make a more "rugged" rock rail utilizing the factory holes already in the KJ...?

I'm curious to why no one mentions Rock Lizard? Has anyone had a bad experience with these?

This is by far my favorite design and what I plan to get when I can. Obviously I don't have any experience with them but I think this is the best design out there.

Do the RL sliders use the factory mounting points? That would really make it a better product then the others that require drilling...

I thought you had them I was going to mention that but couldn't remember. I'm sure yours have seen PLENTY of use as well.

LOL, just noticed this, guess I should've known you had them huh?

Using the factory holes would mean a weaker design would have to be made,RL's sliders use 13 bolts to hold each rail on the KJ(26 total) for a stronger design that won't fail. The OEM rails are not HD units and are not mounted to take alot of abuse.

What can I say,I like RL's products 8) .They haven't let me down yet or bent in anyway, most of the hard slams along where on the outer bar and not the rail itself and it hasn't bent at all, very well made and exelent welds.

It says a lot about a company's quality when one of their "show-off" vehicles is a customers vehicle that has support them so much that they deserve that spot. Which is EXACTLY why I'll be heading that way when I get my sliders. Not only that but there basic version is also $50 less then boulder bars although I'll be going for the Super Skinks.

I'm leaning towards the Super Skinks, myself, but wonder if my wife will be bumping her legs on the extended bars when exiting the KJ. I sure like the amount of protection they offer, though.

She's already leary about the pending lift. She's a short one at only 5 feet tall and worries about getting in and out of the Jeep.

I can't say that I blame her after some of the vehicles she's had to put up with over the last 30 years. The worst, for her, was a 70- something Dodge 4x4 P/U we had with a very tall lift and 35's. She kept a step stool in the driveway and would try to park near tall curbs when she went out. We didn't keep that truck very long as it was dang near impossible for her to get the baby in and out of the car seat by herself. Now that "baby" (now 24 years old) has a car that I have trouble getting low enough to get into. :o

Forget about the factory holes. They weaken any slider possibility.
=======

What a way to wake up a seriously dead thread. Rock Lizard did not have the Sliders back in 2005. Only legitimate panel protection at that time was Boulder Bars. They are a great product. I personally love the Skink Sliders (I had the first Skink Sliders built and tested them in Moab 2006).

SOLID! SOLID! SOLID!

I am due for a repainting of the skinks since it was my first experience painting metal and there is rust from my poor workmanship, so when I take them off, I will pay to get the "Super" added to them for even more protection. Out here in Colorado, you get off camber a lot and very close to scraping your doors on big boulders. With the Supers added, it will provide the KJ doors (not just the rocker panels) with better protection.
