Gas Mileage

What is the gas mileage CRD owners are seeing? I met the owner of a CRD and he was curious. I referred him to LOST.

We don't get gas mileage. :lol:

These diesels are running low 20s around town from what I'm seeing. Mine averages 23-24 miles per gallon just driving around town and to work and back. On the Interstate I'm sure I could get 26 or more.

My fuel milage for combined city hyw and interstate is just under 27. 4K on CRD.

And then there's the rest of us who get 19 around the city, and 23 - 24 hwy.

Ive got just over 3k on my CRD. My first highway trip (1500mi.) I got 24.1 mph

I was driving 65-75 the complete trip. Im sure the mileage will be better than that

in a few years.

I've noticed that fuel quality makes a bigger difference on these diesels than it does on gas-powered trucks. Last tank I got 450 miles and then filled up with 18 gallons. So far on this tank from a different station I've only got 325 miles or so and I'm getting down toward a quarter-tank left already. My driving style and mix is exactly the same all the time. So where you get your fuel makes a BIG difference on these CRDs. My worst mpg so far was 20 pulling a 4,500 lb. load down the interstate, and my best was almost 25 mpg running empty and being light on the pedal.

Either way, I'm averaging 8 miles per gallon more than my wife's 3.7L V6, and over the long run that equals a LOT of cash. :wink:

How can you tell if a gas station is selling the new Low Sulfer Diesel Fuel? I was told if possible to gas up at the same station and save reciepts and write down milage on each recipt. That was if your engine died because of crappy fuel, you have proof of where you gassed up at and can hopefuilly have said gas station pay for repairs. Anyone know anything about this?

Call the supplier, it has been my experience they are glad to tell you about their fuels.
What brand are you using? Conoco and Chevron in NM have already switched to the
Reformulation that meets the low sulfur requirement.

Both have assured me that the engine will run better, maybe more power on the LSD. Something to due with the lubricity package that is replacing the sulfur.

Anyway call, or post your brand we can find the information on the net. Don

Hey thanks. I have alot of BP's and Shell Gas Stations in my area. BP uses Amaco Fuels. I'm in Genesee County Michigan and the nearest big city is Flint. You just called the actuall gas stations?

For Conoco I called the 1-800 from the back of the credit card and was given the 1-800 for the plant in TX that distributes to NM. They transferred me to an engineer who told me that Conoco Phillips had began switching earlier this year and my area has all LSD in the supply at retail by now. (June)

Chevron worked pretty much the same way. I do not trust the local stations to know the details of what is in their tanks.

BP Amoco started in May with the United Kingdom; I would assume it is here as well.

United Kingdom -- BP Amoco announced that it has begun selling ultra-low-sulphur diesel at its service stations in the UK. Soon all 1,600 of the company's sites in Great Britain will offer the fuel, which emits 90% less sulphur dioxide and almost a third fewer particulates and less black smoke than standard diesel. The cleaner fuel also is widely sold to BP's commercial customers.

I called BP customer service at 1-800-333-3991 they said for technical details about fuels call 1-800-841-5255. They transferred me but I got a recording about business hours, Monday-Friday times. If that should helps Don

I live in Vegas and with the heat and a/c I am getting 19-28 with 5000+ miles. I think the A/C is really bringing the MPG down. The 28.5-29 was a trip from Utah, my wife was following me in a uhaul and she was only going like 60 with A/C on. A little dissapointing but overall ok so far, Monday a distributer down here is going to start selling B20 to the public. I am hoping this might help power, mpg. Hope this helps, anyone lifted so far?

B20 will not help your mileage. Most likely you will see a smidgeon of a drop (probably not noticable without a calculater)... But your engine will run quieter, last longer, and you will be using 20% less imported oil.

last tank full of Hess fuel was junk, lots of clatter and smoke, Cheveron on the other hand is fairly quiet and not as sooty as Hess swill. I have not checked the mpg yet though, I'm waiting for more miles before I start checking that.

We're getting 25-27 in mixed driving (50 mile highway commute + around 10-15 city miles daily). Highway miles are 70mph.

WOW, that's about 1mpg better then my 93 plymouth voyager. :wink:

You CRD owners are somewhat lucky as you can get more bang for your buck at the pump. Wish my 04 KJ gas was as good. 13-16 city (depends on if it's me or the wife driving) and best hwy has been 20.1 (when I checked it). So, needless to say, whish it was a CRD.. Anybody tow? What's the mpg when pulling say a 3500lb travel trailer or any kind of trailer?
