so far no one has. Well at least I have not heard. I have been toying the idea of making dimond plate flares.

I was thinking it would help remove the "Cuteness" to replace the plastic fenders with some 'boxier, metal fenders. Also should give more room for bigger tires. Unforchantly I not a fab person.

That would look awesome, especially with a aftermarket bumper. Probably could fit 31's on stock suspension

I was thinking with the new bumper by JHCRASH and maybe a rear bumper by him (if he makes one, hint, hint) the KJ would rock!

I think Marty at Rock Lizard dropped a hint on a different thread that he might just be looking into the idea. :D

I hope so... after I'm done giving Marlin at Jeepin' by Al's all my money, I'm planning on moving to giving Marty all my money!

I can see the rear being a little difficult, because of the rear door, but with the great jobs some of these guys do, I bet one of them can come up with it.

Metal flares? They would look good but would bent very easily, unless they are very very strong, and that would make them too heavy. Stick to stock plastick fenders, they are useful. Imagine getting those metal ones dented.. ouch.

I still thinking of doing away with at least my front ones. I would have someone weld on some plate where the indentation is for the flair. Get it painted and ready to roll. I'm lucky, Florida doesn't care about tires sticking out! Might do the back also. If it could be done and look good.

Quick sketch

Not sure if it's do-able, but what I had in my head any way. Maybe some of the Fab guys can shed some light into whether it's do-able or not.

Can you draw that with the front fender tapering down to and tying into a set of sliders? Should help with strength a little. And I wanna see what it'd look like.

Needs bigger tires. What if you get rid of the rear fenders all together. Like the CJ's...you'll have to fill the body with sheet metal. Tjkj02, had a picture with his rear fender off.

Yup, tied to a steel front bumper, they should be fairly strong. Could make them out of thick enough material to be really strong. Weld at each end and you've got a start on an exocage. :D

Metal flares sound great, I'd like to see that on my KJ.

The problem I see is the metal in the rear & front stops short of the outside edge of the plastic flare anyway. So you'd have to bend or cut the metal to get any real advantage of having a metal flare. Cos if you leave it where it is your still going to be limited on wheel size. I've already pounded the top & front 1/2 of my rear wheel arch to fit my tyres at full stuff.
