Looking to Replace my Michelins

Howdy all,

My KJ is currently equipped with Michelin LTX M/S tires. I've had 'em since 56K. Now I'm about 80 miles away from 90K. Looking to replace them here soon, sometime over the summer, if not by next month.

Most of my driving is onroad. My KJ gets me back and forth between college here in Louisiana and home in Austin, Texas. However, I still do some light to medium offroading. Was looking for tires that provide a good inbetween for road and offroad driving.

Was looking at these in particular

Take a look at the ones I'm using. They work really well off road except not really great in mud. (see below)

the LTX AT2's really aren't any more aggressive than the LTX M/S's you have now. Go with the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo...better overall tire. Michelin's truck tires are overrated IMO.

check your build date...

my '02 Sport was built before they lowered them, and my 245/75-16 MT/R's fit without a whole LOT of rubbing before it was lifted...they rubbed at full stuff, and they rubbed at full lock, but during daily driving it was nothing to worry about. flexed out, it ripped the rivets out of the fenders.

That is it. They don't make much road noise and they grip real well. I'm surprised that more haven't chimed in yet. I don't have any brand loyalty I looked at all the tires and compared the stats on Tire Rack. Real users rate the tires and the ones I got rated very high.

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. I don't have any brand loyalty either...for the time being, at least. Though they aren't very rugged, I can't deny my Michelins have been great tires for the 34,000 miles that I've had them. By the way, does that sound like enough miles to have on a tire?? i did the old "penny test", and it suggested I need new tires here soon. If anyone wants to assess, I can take some pictures.

Been comparing the GY Wrangler Silent Armors and the Bridgestone Deuler AT Revos. Both are great suggestions. I get my tires from Discount Tire, so I'm going to start comparing and looking around.

If anyone else has a suggestions for a good in between on/offroad tire, please chime in.

you can get 245/70/R16s under your stock KJ with zero rubbing...any larger and you will need to pound and trim or get lifted.

I'll throw in a great AT tire with aggressive looks, stellar wet, snow and ice traction and about 25 pounds lighter than KOs or Grabbers...Nokian Vatiiva ATs. Killer AT!!

The LTX M/S's should last you an EASY 65-70k miles if you keep them properly rotated and inflated. I don't know HOW you'd need tires at 34k uness your KJ's alignment is WAY whacked out.

he drives back and forth from college. How did YOU drive at that age????

I'm in college too...but I don't drive my Jeep like I have my vehicles that have been fun ON pavement :lol:

I just took another look at my tire tread. They definitely still have some life left in 'em, but it won't be too long before they need replacing. Yes, I'm a college student, butI don't really drive that hard :roll:

. Perhaps my offroad excursions wear them out a little bit more than normal.

Speaking of which, I walked out to my KJ to go somewhere this afternoon to find my left rear tire completely flat. Was definitely not a slow leak, I must have ran over something on I-10 yesterday evening. Unfortunately, there isn't a Discount Tire around so I can't get my tire replaced on warranty. Gonna have to settle with patching it up somewhere.

I'm liking my Fuzion XTi's so far. Got about 6000 on them and still look new. not that expensive either. I bought mine from Tirerack.com.

I know of several places in all the major towns along I-10 that may be able to help you out with tires.
