Just pulled both front axles out today and the passenger side axle seal is leaking.

What's the trick to getting the seal out, since it's recessed pretty far in to get at it..... Please don't tell me I have to drop the whole housing to get at it. :x

Thanks,
Nick

Dont know what the trick is to getting it out sorry. I only took one of mine out, or actually Tom did, and it was when the housing was sitting on the floor...

But, my reason for replying on this is that I have 1 axle seal and 1 pinion seal here, brand new, if you need them.

I got an axle seal puller from NAPA, looks like a big two sided hook with a handle. The seal was really stubborn, I heated it up with a burnzomatic torch thing (borrowed if from a friend, not sure what I was called) and she loosed enough to rip her out.

Thanks for the offer Jon, but I already ordered a set from Napa along with a pair of axles that I'll be picking up after work today.

Thanks, I'll check on it today when I pick up my parts.

Well, I picked up one of those 2 prong pullers and it was a joke. It might have worked on the drivers side, but the passenger side seal is recessed a good 3" into the tube. No room to manuver with the housing still bolted up and the puller was only 12" long and couldn't get any leverage. Then I started looking through all my junk and ran across my crowbar. Hmmm I wonder, maybe it's to big to fit, but I'll give it a try. One tug and it poped right out!

That's good to know. Sorry, I replaced my driver's side seal and didn't even think about that for the passenger side! Glad to know things worked out for you.

Congratulations on your 1000th post KJ04 ;)

What axle did you break? The one going from diff to wheel?

What did that cost you to replace?

Broke the passenger side outer CV. Replaced both axles from Napa for $168.00.
