The further south you go the more 4x2's you'll see. There's simply less of a market for 4wd vechicles in the south (since there is no harsh winter for the average person to need that sort of capablities)

This thread inspired me to go to the dealership where I picked up my KJ. Not a single 4x2. All had trac-lock. Even the full size pickups (also a chevy, buick dealer) were all 4x4's. Half of the full size's had lockers. 2 of the 9 Wranglers had winches and lifts installed (on new vehicles). The closet thing to a 4x2 Jeep I saw was a rental grand cherokee with all wheel drive. I geuss I am lucky.

It's funny because here in KY we have about 90% 4x4s among all trucks you see. We get snow in the winter, and there's lot of rural areas with mud, plus we just plain like to have fun.

But you head south of here...and it's all 4x2s. When I was in MS and AL and even in GA there were tons of 4x2s. It was really interesting.

The exception to the rule though is FLORIDA! I was there last week and there were 4x4s everywhere! We even got a KJ for a rental when we got off the plane in FL and IT was a 4x4! I wonder what Florida's obsession with 4x4s is all about? Maybe because it's all sand down there??

The dealer I bought ours at will only stock and order 4X4, V6 or Diesel. No 4x2 and no 4 cylinders. They are too hard to sell and impossible to resell up here. Finding a 5 speed is also extremely difficult. I have a friend with a '03 KJ Renegade, V6, 5speed that the dealer found in Cincinnati.

I ordered my Liberty Renegade in late 2002 so I could get it equipped just the way I wanted it, but basically to get Selec-trac, because none of the dealers I talked to in Southeastern Michigan stock Liberties with Selec-Trac; they all have Command-Trac. I also really would have liked to have a 5-speed, but in 2003, you couldn't get a Liberty with a V-6 and a 5-speed. Later models offered the 5-speed, which doesn't make me happy. I love driving a stick and would have like my Jeep so equipped. I realize that manual transmission vehicles are not very popular, but I've never had a problem selling one.

The KJ is my third Jeep. When I bought my first one(00 TJ, my company paid for it so no mods) I had a hard time finding one with A/C. And there were also quite a few TJs on the lot that were 4x2 which really suprised me. When I asked the dealer about it, they told me that 4x4 and A/C wasn't in high demand in this area. When I left that job I had to get my own Jeep. I couldn't find a TJ that had A/C, yet they all had cruise control. I live in a strange market.

I drive a 4x2, but when I am driving around I see more 4x4's than 4x2's. I wanted to get a 4x4 my self, but I couldn't afford it with the negative equity I was rolling in from my truck.

I see mostly 4x4s here in the Phoenix area. Some of the KJs have the 4x4 emblem on the side, and when I see that I have to correct my initial impression that the driver is a 4x2 wuss. Only someone on a small budget would buy a 4x2 jeep. Besides the obvious offroading advantage, the 4x4 is a safer vehicle -- it's rated 3 stars for rollovers, whereas the 4x2 gets only 2. I think it has to do with the weight of the extra differential.

Thats what I thought when I asked the dealer about them, but he swore they were 4x2s..I figured he knew since he was around them all the time. This thread got me curious so I looked it up...sure enough, I can't find a 4x2 TJ. I am betting they were all SEs with the steel wheels. Makes me wonder if he was just trying to sell me a more expensive model(even though I was already looking at the Sport). Glad I moved and had to buy my KJ somewhere else.

The SE is the cheapest Jeep available with half doors, zip up windows, stick shift no AC and all TJ's and YJ's and CJ's are 4x4.

They run about 20% 4x4 and 80% 4x2 here in South Carolina.. When we went to go get our new Libby... They had 4 4x4 Libby's on the lot and about 20 or so 4x2... We really wanted a Renny but all they had was a 4x2.. So that is why bought our Sport... 2 options we wanted was the Off Road package and a tow package.. That narrowed it down to 2 of the 4.. So it was either Dark Khaki or Atlantic Blue.. We took the blue one... And the other dealers in the area didn't even have a 4x4 on the lot...

100% 4x4 in the UK we don't get any of them Jeep or otherwise in 2wd except the Honda HRV (don't even go there!)
Its not weather its just what is the norm, pointless as 99% of them never see more than a grass kerb

Ill never forget about 4 years ago my aunt had a 2wd grand cherokee. She was always getting stuck in the walmart parking lot in snow drifts and people would always stop to show her how to put it into 4wd and were amazed when it didnt have it. Funny story i thought.

The first time i saw a 2wd libby on a dealer lot i had to get under it to see what it looked like with no tcase and front end. Very weird looking. The driveline is so LONG.
