but how do you know you have a leak? Put in stop leak for nothing....not that hard to check the thermostat which is where I would of started since you have lost some fluid then it may have boiled over, which is not a leak but can loose fluid

Oh well

Yep - even if the coolant is leaking into the head or block - it's still a leak - just no fluid on the ground. It will be seeping out the head gasket, or the tailpipe...

Steam leaks will surreptitiously drop fluid too - without 'visible' leakage over time.

well if something like thats the case, whats the best method of fixing. I looked all over and couldn't find anything that resembled a leak. So my guess is that its internal which to my knowledge is not a good thing. For now I'm going to throw some of that radiator sealer into it and watch it. Don't have money to throw at a mechanic right now. Sons birthday is in 3 days and I went a lil overboard ;)

come over to work and i can get you a discount

For the coolant issue I'd get a cooling system pressure tester, real easy way to find your mystery leak. You may just have a bad coolant cap.

Well the verdict is in, coolant is leaking into the throttlebody somehow. Luckily it is covered under warranty! Don't ask me how it happened, I don't know, haven't even beat the girl yet.

by the way, ohv_kj's liberty is sick saw it in person... wait till he gets it all finished up, you all will crap.

thermostat sticking and just needing replaced,
for such low miles my thoughts are you dont drive it near enough
For an 04 you should have at least 100,000 on it!

Like Tom said -- I would still replace the thermostat.

When the temp raises high then drops down (and especially if it doesn't happen again until the motor cools down) it is a good indication of a sticking thermostat. Also when the temp is high, pressure builds and fluid is forced out the "pressure" cap lowering fluid level. That’s how it is designed to work.

So don’t take the chance of a brake down later – replace the thermostat.

I don't see coolant being piped into the throttle body of my KJ. With the "plastic" intake manifold I doubt that coolant runs through there! My other ride does have coolant connections on the TB.

SOooo ... can anyone fill me in on the KJ? :?:

Well I'm not 100% thats the problem, but coolant is getting into the engine. Whatever the problem is in that case its a pretty penny to fix, Thanks again James for hooking me up with your pals, without your guys help I would be stuck for sure!

I'm not sure, regardless of the fact.. ended up in the emergency room today, back siezed up on me when I was changing the oil in my aunt civic that I'm borrowing until the jeep is fixed. Thats what you get for hauling those heavy rucksacks for so long though. So yea its going on a pretty crappy week, at least tomorrows my sons birthday, and I got some killer pain med.

Talking with the wife, I think I might get a old cherokee and let her have the libby. She likes to offroad and I think it would be better if I didnt destroy the thing.
