... I see these on basically every serious off road rig, but have no clue what they are used for... why would you want to lift a vehicle that is about to move, wouldn't it crash down... or am I missing the point?

The hiLift is not only for lifting it makes a great hand winch for pulling. But you are correct in your safety concerns.

Most offroaders use it for lifting say if you are hung up on a rock or log and need to get ur rubber up and slip something under it to get traction. The whole idea is to be safe and not lift any vehicle that has the potential of rolling. kind of the point. if it is stuc it is not moving. They are also great for the trail fixes where you blow a bead, bend a rim, bust an axle...

I have never seen and would never expect to see anybody use one in a way that would INCREASE the danger, such as you question.

Good question though.

If your KJ is lifted, in many cases the stock jack will no longer raise the vehicle - Need a highlift. You also need a place to tack it up, so boulder bars/sliders are needed. I have seen an adapter that someone on this board fabricated to allow use of a highlift without sliders.

They also make an accessory that allows you to lift the wheel directly without damaging it.

You can use the highlift as a hand winch, (also need shackles, chain, tow straps) to get you unstuck.

You can use the highlift as a jaws of life, to get things unbent, to get things back into place etc.

Its a handy tool to have with you, it can be used for so many things on the trail.

Sounds like something I should invest in one of these days... Plus they just look cool on the roof LOL! Luckilly I have the rock rails on my KJ, so I guess if I ever need to, I can mount it there.

HOLD ON THERE COWBOY!!!!!!!!!

Dont think you can use a Hilift on those Mopar Rock Rails. Those are for show only.

If you do, be prepared to get really pissed.

They WILL bend. They are not designed to be used as actual sliders. just too weak and cosmetic only!!!!!!!!!

You can not use a Hi-Lift with the OEM rock rails since they do not stick out enough and are not strong enough to support the KJ's weight.

Ahhh, well that was my next question :) So, where can I use a high jack on my KJ? If I invested in a bull bar (to hold me over until I can get a ARB), would that be a safe place? Or is there any real place it will work? Maybe with the attachments for tires or something?

What about if I had a trailer hitch... I know thats only a rear point but still, would that be safe?

I have not used the hi-lift to do it, but I have used a pnumatic lift on my Mopar sliders to lift the Jeep to rotate tires (one side at a time). The have also held up fairly well to the rigors of trails in UT and CO.

You got lucky, only thing I can say.

With regard to the original posters last question...

the lift straps for the wheels are good and I am pretty sure the hitch will be a lifting point as well.

Save your money and get some good sliders (like Rock Lizards) and be confident that you can lift from them. A bull bar will NOT work. Again all shwo and no go. the RL bumpers, ARB bumpers are designed with lifting points. the Tube bars are only for looks. NO STRUCTURE

I'm going to argue with you there. I've known quite a few good friends with tube bars on there trucks/jeeps, and they have had there booty saved because of them. There are some that are so cheap, there are just for look, but there are many that are solid as a rock. Hell, all local police around here have them and use them as ram bars, I have also seem (not involved, but seem), then used as a ram bar from anything to moving a stalled car, to literally driving into another vehicle, so your waay off there. Either way, I would be more worried about the joints holding the bar to the vehicle not holding the strain, and then you are talking structural weakness in the vehicle, not the parts.

I understand your passion. I think Troy will agree with me when I say that the "Tube Bars" on the front of Police cars are made to do things like that.

The Ones currently designed for the KJ are almost always for show only. They are not designed for anything like what you are talking about. Just because it "Looks" like the one on the front of your local cops car, don't assume it is just as strong. Or you will be sorry.

well where would you jack then I have used my stock sliders as a jacking point and they have bent a very lil bit but nothing major? Its where I put my jack stands and has held the entire truck off the ground.

Ive used my rear hitch and my front bumper and they both worked great. but I would have to agree with WoodysKJ on the bumper guard I had one for a little while and it was built good but not for a jacking point there is no way I would use one to jack my jeep up

I'm probably a fool for saying this, but I am too stubborn to believe that nobody makes a real functional brush guard for the liberty's. With all the aftermarket parts that exist, this can't be true... That being said, I have abandoned my search for a good brush guard because of the cost of the ones that I would consider "functional", I am shooting for a ARB within the next 2 years. I need new tires, and a new muffler this year, next year is the lift, and after that is the bumper. I probably wouldn't use a brush guard as a jack point since they are so rounded.

I feel the same way.

There SHOULD BE products like that but they are mostly just cosmetic. The primary problem, (and this is a sticking point for some and a topic hyjack, so I appologize beforehand) That inorder to have that required strength they almost have to be as beefy as the arb. Problem with that in the new computer minded/air bag vehicles is that adding that kind of beef to the front of your vehicle or KJ is going to mess with the crumple zones designed into the safety systems of the vehicle.

The R&D needed to get the ability to develop an item such as that is VERY expensive and most of the companies making the aftermarket products just don't want the expense or the liability.

ARB has designed and tested the 100+ pounds of steel to actuall work with the KJ's crumple zones there by being one of the few products on the market that is actually Air Bag Compliant.

Look around in the forsale frums and you might stumble on a used ARB bumper. I did and saved a BUNCH of cash. Drove about 3 1/2 hours to pick it up, but well worth the over 700.00 i saved. Got it re-powdercoated and voila:

I have jacked my jeep using the rear hitch receiver, front hitch receiver and my sliders (from RRO)

I've seen at least one plan for a sleeve that fits over the jack that allows use without rock rails. Its a piece of 2" square tube (same as receiver material)
