Wondering if a portable air tank is practical for re-airing up. Has anyone used this, if so would a 5 or 10 gallon tank filled to 125 PSI be enough to fill 4 tires from 20 back up to 38? Harboe Freight has a 5 gallon for $30 and a 10 Gallon for $35, don't want to go any bigger than necessary, but want enough to refill at least once per trip.

My 7 gallon tank at 125 psi will get me from 20 to 33 on 265/75's... enough for me get to a gas station when I leave the trail. I'll be replacing with a CO2 cyclinder soon.

How many air-ups do you get from a c02 tank and what does it cost to refill the tank?

depending on size of the tank about 100-150 fills.

I'll someone else chime in, but I know it isn't that expensive, when you compare it to how much use you can get.

depends on where you go 14/15 bucks or so around here, CO2 is the way to go, have a 20 pounder for mine, not in there yet, but have used it around the garage. Initial buy in price is a lot higher but long term its cheaper and better, can air up after a run in a very few minutes on all 4

I personally got tired of the Co2 tank and switched to portable compressors. I run a Quickair II in my TJ now and then I bought a Tsunami for my other vehicles. For $60.00 it works great almost as well as my $300.00 (or whatever it cost my wife to buy) Quickair. Co2 always was a pain to keep filled and seemed to run out at the most inoppretune times. With the portables they are always ready and I never have to worry if they are full before I head out. I decided to give the Pep Boys special a try as I had known others that had them and they seemed to work well. I have had mine about a year. It takes around 15 minutes to fill my tires (245/75R15's) from 12 to 32 psi. If you are impatient or want the ability to run air tools this is not for you. I tried protable tanks way back and gave up on those rather quickly. They just don't hold enough air.

That's a big bottle.

I've been on the bottle for about 5 years now. Never leave home with out it. All that noise from those little compressors drives me nuts.

Costs me $30 around here to fill up. I just heard a refrigeration place will do it for 20 but someone also said that place doesn't always fill it full. The guy I bought my CO2 system from said the 10 #er I have will fill forty 33" tires. It is silent, and takes just over 60 seconds per tire to go from 15 psi to 35 and at $185 out the door, was a good deal.

My write-up on mine. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hlight=co2
Love it! I can be aired up and moving in a couple minutes instead of waiting for about 10-20 on a small compressor. I Do also have an ARB compressor for my air lockers so in a pinch I could use it too. I top off my CO2 once a year and it works fine for a season of wheeling which often includes airing up others. only $12 to fill it around here.

X100 on the CO2
I have a 20# main and 2 5# back ups
when the 20 gets down low ,you can tell by weight, I put a 5 on the back floor board
I run air tools like an impact ,air ratchet and air cut off tool ,great for bent tail pipes
now I get mine filled for free and most times bring a 20 and a 5 at the same time but I take a 5 on EVERY road trip we take ,that and the impact and socket to remove a flat ,and a plug kit to plug a nail hole
I had the Vair 350 compressor and a tank not even close to the speed of CO2 and air tools were out

this is how we handled on board air... but i dont think it'll fit in an ARB :( however a custom bumper is always an option. does all 4 35's from 14-32psi in about 8mins... but it cant do the air tools that C02 can. added bonus.. a 10,000lb winch with 125 foot of cable

I also have a 20 pounder................It's big, but I wanted something that I could use on the Farm/Ranch, take on road trips (towing my travel trailer), and still be able to use it for off-roading. It's overkill, but I'm an overkill type of guy. If I were just using a bottle for off-roading, then I would go with a 8-10 pounder.

a 10 pounder is good a good size for the KJ. I looked into it but just couldn't afford the initial cost. I went with this: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=93186

I have about a dozen times so far. I can go from 18 to 35psi in 245/75R 16's in about 3 minutes per tire. It gets really hot by the time I fill all four tires and its noisy too. It's not as nice as a CO2 system and I will eventually go that route but this works for now.

I've not timed my air up from 15lbs to 40lbs, but I'd be very surprised if it even took a minute per tire. With a 150lb regulator, my CO2 tank fills the tires QUICK.

Was wondering if anyone has found this same PowerTank package for less? These things aren't cheap.
