Hey, I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty Renegade. My stock rims on the liberty are pretty worn out. I was going to replace them with
American Racing Mojave Series

http://www.americanracing.com/browse_atx.asp

I currently have 16 inch rims and no lift.

What size rim would i need to get in the Mojave and what size tire could I put on it with any rubbing or issues. Looking for a tire for a bit offroading and daily driving also.

I plan on putting on crager soft 8's later down the road, when I lift the Jeep but taht will be a while yet. So the Mojaves will have to do for now. Any other Rims that you guys recommend?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I am not positive on rim size and what not but I will say that I am debating those rims too. They look great!

If you do a search for rims you should get all the answers you need about size and back spacing. :)

why would you get the Mojave only to replace them with Soft 8s later?? the soft 8 is cheaper just get it now

I would love to have the Mojave but they are too expensive for me.

I have 16x7 with 4" BS and I have a lift and the stock wheels are 16x7 with 5.5" of BS

I ran the American Racing Victor's for a while with a 265/75/16. I had a huge rubing inssue in the rear because of the backspacing of the rims. A 8" wide rim isn't optimal for the size tires we can run. A 7" rim is just better suited. with a 245/75/16 it may not be as bad though...

I second the Soft 8's. If you plan on running them in the future. Since a set of Cragars are over $350 cheaper than the ATX's, it seems like a no brainer to me...

If you do go with the AR Mojaves, check this guy out, he's about $45 chepaer a rim than the site you had listed. That's $225 less for a set. He'll also work a package deal for you, if you want.

According to the AR site, the Mojave comes in a 16x8 with 4 1/2 inch backspace. That would be tough to fit on a lifted KJ and probably not work at all on a stock one. I really liked some of the ATX series rims but in a 5 on 4 1/2 pattern, I couldn't find any that would work properly. You're better off with the 16x7 Soft 8's or even a 16x8 with 5" backspace. I'm running the latter but still had to trim the front fender liner and lower edge of the front bumper even with an OME lift.

Can someone give me a plain and simple explanation of back spacing, and width, and how this effects rubbing?

Back spacing (BS) is the amount of room between the back edge of the rim and the flange that mounts against the hub.

This affects rubbing in two ways... To much BS will put your wheels out farther, with the KJ's this means that the tire will almost definitely rub on the fenders when stuffed or the front bumper and fenders when turning. To little BS and the Tire will contact hard parts, commonly the sway bar when turning and the fender walls if offroading.

Think of your outside edge of the tire traveling in a big arch/circle. If you have less backspacing or more width, that makes that arch larger possbily allowing fender/bumper contact. Chevy fullsize and S10's have tons of backspacing so the wheels are tucked up under fenders pretty well. It's a pain going with standard off the shelf wheels cause they push wheel out much farther, limits the wheels you can get unless you have tone of lift.
