There's another thread from a year or so ago, someone posted the BCI Group number for the standard type battery that would work in place of the Optima.

I'm waiting for the day I have to replace that honking Group 45 monster in the old '87 MB - 6 old fashioned glow plugs manage to pull that beast below 11 volts initially in cold weather.

3 here and the red top is in my TJ, it doesn't get driven every day and did sit for almost year while I was working on it. Its been fully discharged a couple of times and still kicks butt. I will probablly be replacing it here soon, but it will be with another Optima. I "might" go with a Yellow top this time though.

I may be forced to eat my words on this one, we'll see. The battery tested ok, there was a TSB on the switch that controls power to the 7 wire trailer harness. I guess it is supposed to "fade out" kind of like the interior lights, but sometimes it gets stuck before "out". So they replaced it with an on/off type. That's the story I got anyway, I wasn't there. Time will tell. That would explain why the Jeep went flat-out-dead in July when we went away for two weeks, though.

BlackLibertyCRD, I also live 2 miles from work. It is definitely hard on equipment, especially in the winter. Makes for really crappy fuel mileage, too. Haha, but there's a lot of people with 30+ mile commutes that would probably kill me for complaining about such a thing, so...

Thanks for the replies!
