The 2.7 is junk. There are numerous serious problems with them & they are hard to get replacement engines. Why, you ask? Because so many of them are un-reperaible without spending more than the value of the car. I had a 2000 Intrepid with that engine and learned the hard way.

the 2004 and newer ones are reliable with the oiling problems fixed by the engineers, but you still have the fact that the water pump is driven by the timing chain in the oil bath. if your water pump leaks it mimics a headgasket with water in the oil.

The 2.7 has never given me any trouble.

The key to the 2.7 is getting the oil changed every 3000 miles. If you do that, they last just as long as any other motor.

Unless the chain breaks or the water pump goes out or the head gasket pops... :D My mistake must have been using synthetic oil? If someone got a good one, I am glad. But there must have been some reason for the re-do in '04. They didn't do it for the fun of it. I admit that I was unaware of this, but I would honestly run from a pre-2004.

Look at some Dodge sites and check into the price of a long block, how many cars you see getting parted out on craigslist because the 2.7 in it is gone, and anyone buying used probably cannot assure how a used vehicle was really maintained prior to their purchase. Good luck either way.

I told his dumb booty not to buy that heap.

my stepmom's '05 2.7 Sebring is soldiering on, but it's got a cold startup rattle that makes my dad and I think its days are numbered.

She doesn't hear it :?
