Grill Cover or blocker for winter/cold??

Does anyone know where I can get a nice grill cover to block the air in the winter? If you run a CRD in the winter/cold I'm sure you know why I want one. Thanks.

I'm very happy with the Fia winterfront. It comes with a bug screen for summer as well. I had to replace some of the stick on snaps this winter (because I had applied them at way too cold a temperature last winter) but it works great. Warmup is much faster and the engine stays warm longer after shutdown.

We have a printshop,one of our substrates we use is corroplast(looks like cardboard,but made out of plastic).It comes in all different colors,and 1/4 inch thick fits between plastic grille "protector" and metal frame,then snap frame back on.Mine is black,and from 5 feet away you can't even see it.Total cost $15,and 20 minutes labor= one of a kind product.

I mashed a tarp between my chrome grill and the black grill and left 1 slot open on both sides. Might warm up slightly faster, but otherwise not really noticeable. Plug in the block heater for better results.

Two corroplast "For Sale" signs from Wally World - $2. Can of cheap black spray paint - $2. Pack of black tie straps - $1.50.

Cut signs to shape to fit into grille openings from the front. Punch appropriate holes for tie straps to attach to grille. Paint black with spray paint. Attach to grille with tie straps.

Can remove or add in any configuration you please in a few minutes with a pair of scissors and some tie straps. No need to remove the grille. Black paint makes them look "factory" and keeps the corroplast from being degraded by exposure to UV and the elements.

My friend in TX actually thought they were an aftermarket or Mopar product, until he took a close-up look and I told him how I made them.

I'm currently using grill inserts from Lund. Because they are for older Liberties, they're just a tad long. I cut about 1/2" off to get them to fit. This seems to be a mid-priced option relative to what's been suggested already. I only blocked the middle five slots. It seems to warm up a little quicker when driving, but I still see the temp gauge drop when sitting there and idling when the outside temperature is under 20 deg F.

I haven't seen many places that sell them when I was value shopping. Autotrucktoys is where I eventually got them.

Another vote for the Fia winter front. It looks great and the bug screen in the spring/summer/fall is nice too.

Sir Sam, where did you get thos rock sliders? (from the link above) I like those!!!

I have the Fia Grill cover too. It says to put it on when it is above 60 degrees. I haven't seen above 60 for a long time so I decided to wait to put it on. It appears very nice.

Alaska Tent made mine.
It was reasonably priced about $70.
The installation was pretty fast.
Just do not forget about the air intake.
It still needs to breathe.
I cover up at night to keep the heat in when plugged in.

Ahh yes, the other oft-forgotten advantage of having the V6 air intake mod - you can block off the grille completely with no worries.

I got the Fia winterfront and the screen combination when I bought my CRD in June of '06. The winterfront is a real nice item and when the weather warms up and the bugs are out... I snap on the screen front and it keeps the little critters out of my radiator and CAC. Also you will not get those little stone dents from when someone's tire doesn't like you and throws one at your grill.

Darn good investment and looks good as well.

Forgot about Alaska Tent and Tarp doing them! I had a number of these things made up by them for various vehicles when I lived near Fairbanks. They make great products.

I was also thinking about cutting up my unused spare tire cover and mounting that over the grille.

Never really found a need for a blocker even down to -20 deg F. Went my engine gets cold, the viscous heater kicks in and does a good thing of keeping things warm.

Without, the viscous heater will run longer, it will take longer to heat up, you will drop below optimum temperature faster and for longer when stood at traffic lights etc. This will all have an impact on fuel economy. You may not "need" a blocker but it might be desirable at these temperatures.
