Anyone done one yet? I think mine are getting ready to lose their magic smoke... Haven't had much chance to look at it yet.. never hurts to ask and see if anyone has any info on it... how hard are they to get at? What comes off... anything else I should replace while I'm doing it. 95K on ole girl right now...

No Chiltons at Schucks today... I think I'm living on borrowed time at this point :? Gotta get it done ASAP.

Well.. Most timing chains last for a long time.. My YJ has 110,000 miles on it and it is 11years old.. Still going strong.. My 96 Saturn had 253,000 miles on it's original timing chain... I hope this gives you any ideas about timing chains... I am so glad that DC didn't go with timing belts.. That is a different story all together...

Ben

Yeah, I hear you, hopefully when I do the Alternator, water pump and some new pulley's, it'll be good to go... but something isn't right... I thought the thing had a timing belt until I looked it up and found out about the chains.

You aren't trying hard enough, I blew one on a Dodge 318 a long time ago. Newer cars have rev limiters so you have to work really hard on newer engines.

Do ALL Libertys have chains and not belts? My GF's 2003 is at 100k and she said there was a recommended change interval of like 95k. I was assuming that she was looking for that information in the owner's manual - but maybe she was looking at some generic info in her Haynes manual or something.

Sorry to dig up an ooold thread - but I figured it was nicer than starting a new one.

Thanks!

Also, the 2.8L CRD has a timing belt.

Hey Seth,

Sorry I wasn't able to call you, I will today (Wednesday). The timing chains should last a long time (should is the optium word). I had a knock which I thought was the chain. took the ol' ear probe around the front of the engine and darn it sounded loike the cahin was slapping against the engine. It turned out to be the #1 injector. I cleaned the system with the Techtron (usually real good stuff) and I guess the plastic injectors do not like to be cleaned with solvent. Two cans of Marvel Mystery oil in the gas later the injector is quiet, but I seem to have a loss of power and it has been idling a little rough, like you said something is just not right, runs fine, but the seat of the pants, it feels funny.

Something else to look at. Also there was a post a while back about resetting the computer, it gets use to your driving style and gets "stale" Something like turn the key on and off three times disconnect the battery and turn the lights on and off three times. Any body remember this post or can find it it would be fun to reset the computer.

Al
