For those using the Yellow top do you have the serial or product number? and where is the best place to get one. 4 wheel parts sell them for like 170 bux. is that good or a rip off?

They are pretty sorry. I work less than 2 blocks away from one of their manufacturing plants. So one day I go over there to buy a battery and was told we don't sell batteries here, so get off of our property

I've had a Red Top for 1-1/2 years and never had a problem with it. Well, there was that time camping at MI Speedway at the Nascar race.. but I had the stereo and subs cranked for about 6 hours! Got it started let it run for a little while and it's been fine ever since

You want the group 34/78 Optima.I originally installed a RedTop 2 weeks after I bought my KJ,then swapped in a YellowTop when I got the winch. The RedTop is still living in my fathers '01 SD(with another RedTop) and it's over 7 years old.My YellowTop has been in my KJ for 3 years with zero issues.

What ever you do DO NOT USE THE SIDE POSTS,that is the #1 reason they deny warranty on any Optima, those are for GM apps only. They will deny a warranty real fast for using a winch of those side posts also,a big no-no since they are not rated for the amperage.

Red Top = Normal starting

Yellow Top = Winching, high power stereo's,and lots of lights-can with stand more draining then the Red Top

Blue Top = Marines use(troller motors),apps where you do not run alternators, can with stand multiple deep drains without harm

I am trying to decide between a Red Top and Yellow Top, I do have roof lights and an 'upgraded stereo' + other electronics... however I do not run these with the engine off, is is still worth the yellow or should I stick with the red?

Also, it is on a Renegade with the 160amp alternator

Thanks,
Sean

I got my yellow top at Costco. Their prices are pretty good and their warranty is not bad either. I had a short that kept draining my battery. After a year and a half, it started failing, so I took it back to Costco. They gave me a pro-rated refund on the battery, which turned out to be about $60.

Digging around the other day, I ran across a listing showing a Blue Top/Starting battery, plus a Blue Top. I didn't realize they had two different kinds of blue tops, but so it would seem.
If so, that might be something to look for as well.
I've had a Red Top living in my TJ for about 4 years now, the last year (since I got the Libby) the TJ hasn't seen much use, and the Red Top is still holding a charge well. I just recently got a trickle charger to add to the pile of toys so I can keep that battery alive.
