How does one go about getting the "M" bolt plate back behind the frame rail?

not 100% on the '06 but my '04 I had to take the bumper off to get to it. Some guys are able to slide it in somehow but I tried and tried.

Super carefully through the holes it goes in. I held onto the longer end and put the shorter end through first and just kept wiggling till they were done. Small hands are a plus for this one. I believe this picture is of the one on the passenger side. The "M" side is on the left that you can't really see. (it was the only picture I had)

Nomad, do you have the section 13 for front bumper/facia removal? Hoping that I can do this without having to replace any of those plastic rivets.... but me thinks not.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Anyone taken off there front tow hooks and replaced them with these
Image Image

When I put the tow hooks back on I saw that there was two bolts holding the hooks to the bracket . If you look up when it is on the liberty you see the three that hold the brackets to the frame . the bolts are the ones that hold it to the bracket . if a standard tow hook will fit the bracket has anyone tried these.I have cut all of the finder well out of the frount and used bed liner and think it would be nice . dont want to if they dont fit

I did it without removing the bumper, very easy to do and i would never do all the work it takes to get that bumper off.

On my '04 they went in very easy. Didn't have to remove anything. The M-bolts just slid right in one hole, and useing the longer end of the bolt to hold on to the other end just droped through the other hole. I did however drill a 1" hole through the bottem of the plastic, so I could get a socket up on the rear nut. It took me less than an hour.

There is a difference here: If you get a set of hooks that are brand new you can install them with out taking the front facia off. If you get a set that were on a kj from the factory you DO have to take the facia off because they are attached differently.

I did mine without taking the bumper off, but I almost had to dislocate my thumb to get in there... I also drilled a couple holes in the bumper to get a socket in there.

WARNING!!! I recently replaced my bumper, and the nearest NAPA with the right rivets was ALBANY! Thats like a 5 hour drive. So call ahead, or order them from the internet way ahead of time... I spent more time driving around finding anything suitable than I did working on the bumper.

Here is a little custom thing I did. Using old trailer hitches.

As you can see I had to remove the bumper. I have promised a couple of guys I would do a write up on them. Maybe after this weekend I will get it done. Look for a post in the fabrication section soon.

You can see more picks of the install at:

Nice setp w3csx!

Did you use a class II ball holder or class III (2") ball holder? I cannot tell from the pictures. Thank you.

I used I.25" recivers. They where laying around my shop. If I had to do it again I would have gone out and used 2".

Two questions here,
W3CSX, how far apart are the holes that you used to bolt them up and what size bolts did you use?

and on the bars that Skipperb showed where can I find those?

Been thinking of using receivers since I have 3 or 4 extra laying around the garage but just need the measurements

Thanks

tom

I don’t remember the exact dimension. The bolts thru the receivers go into the holes for the factory tow hooks. I had to drill holes in the frame for the support brackets. All the bolts are ½” grade 8.
