I'm not the one doing the work unfortunately. I wouldn't have a clue how to do it right. But the guy that is making them has already sold a few complete sets of ZJ doors and a few XJ as well.

when you put the cargo 'saddlebag' deals on the tube doors they aren't so fugly anymore

as a matter of fact it drastically changes my opinion of them

naked tube doors? fugly i agree.. but functional

Why not just pull off the driver door when hitting those tough rocky trails and leave it at home? I am planning on leaving all four home when/if I tackle any of the door eating Hammer trails out in Johnson Valley. Figure the lighter weight wouldn't hurt my quest either.

I like the half doors and have wanted to make one for a while but still no luck finding a Really cheap door to cut up. I should practice doing one for my XJ first though since those are often free.

I'd only need or want the one door. What do you guys think?

I don't like them.

1. The Doors look lame in those photo's anyway. I mean what's up with cutting the handles off but leaving the useless button knob without a handle?

2.But even if I had liked them, I sure wouldn't only do one door.

3. I fail to see how those doors will help nav against large rocks? What, you'd prefer your elbow / shoulder to take the brunt of rocks?!- The only functional purpose I could imagine would be the lack of forced pressure while you're submerged underwater. Maybe if you were doing African safari's I'd consider something like that - Maybe.

(Btw; AC is for soccer mom's & sissy's).

Oddball, then why do you have a KJ? Those are the same things TJ,XJ,YJ, CJ, and anything else "something J" said about the KJ when it came out. I'll take my AC over sucking dust and dirt anyday.

As for African Safari, you can have those doors for it. I prefer to keep the lions and hyenas further away from me an not have as easy an access to my flesh.

WTF are you talking about?

I may just go that route because it is free.

That would be my suggestion as well, but the only thing I worry about there is rocks or trees intruding into my personal space.

Maybe rig up just a simple bar or triangle from tubing that connects to one or both hinges and the latch point? Not really a door, just some minor protection. It also might help keep the door openings from getting misaligned.

I would love to see a finished product on a kj, I'm interested but am not gonna be the first to try haha. I have a question about the tube/open/doors off though. I get that the idea is to have more room to squeeze in the tight spaces, and less body damage haha, but my though is what if you roll, and a big log/stump/ruck goes right into the open space, with a full door you have at least something to protect you, without it it could go straight through you, adn at best bet you loose your leg.....

Not a fan of the square tube doors.

I wouldn't be worried about the doors being off and stuff killing me while wheeling. I used to wheel a CJ, 2 YJs, and 2 TJs. All without doors.

The main issue without any door is the mirrors.

Same basic principle as the ones I posted. I think they are really functional.

Why not go hi tech? Here is an idea i have been wanting to try. Install a front and rear mounted camera hooked up to a display monitor in the cab. That way you can see what's in front and behind you with multiple camera 'eyes'.

I'm not a big tech guy when it comes to jeeps. I think tech stuff tends to break too easy in a heavily abused jeep. Maybe I am wrong.

thats why i got rid of my range rover for the kj

I completely agree with this guy. Tubes do not look good on KJ's, these doors however would look great I think. Sure you can run without the door but this offers a little extra protection. The only PITA is taking it off and putting the stocker back on.

I was at the junk yard today. THey want $400 a door. Less for one that is busted up, but since I need the door to actually close and open still, I need one in good shape. Not worth spending $400 to just cut it up. I could build some tube doors for less I think in the end.

Why don't you build some tube doors that can slip on and off, also mod your stock doors to do the same. When you wanna go wheelin, slip on the tube doors. That way you retain your factory doors for normal driving. Also keep in mind things like powered mirrors and door locks :)

I'm not sure I want to cut the pins on my door to make them quick release. I know a guy who did it to his XJ and they work great but it isn't something I really want to do. As far as the tube doors go, it looks like I will eventually have some made since I'll have to shell out a fair amount for either project and they will be slip on/off doors.

I'd like to see a KJ photoshopped with both half doors and tubes.
