FWIW, the EGR and associated gear is NOT covered under the factory power train warranty, which I don't get.
Oh, I think it's pretty clear. The "warranty" is for the parts that don't fail. EGRs fail all the time, hence no coverage.

A VW service writer once explained the definition of power train was anything lubricated by the engine oil or transmission fluid

With the exception of gaskets and oil seals are not covered. Also sheet metal (as in muffler and cat) are not covered.

I went with the Max Care with the $50 deductible. I purchased off of the internet from a Chrysler dealer out in SD.
No odometer check and a fraction of what the dealer wanted. I will get the name for anyone interested. Long story short, with the simple problems I have had the warranty has paid for itself. I can go on endlessly about what has been replaced, EGR, flow control, throttle body, etc. The free loaner car has been worth its price. I've been given a loaner for days on end with never a question, as long as it's the Chrysler max care the dealer never blinked. I'm waiting for the trans to go so I can get the new torque converter that Danoid had mentioned awhile back... European speced.

Parts that don't fail don't need replacin', hence no use for a warranty, but I get what your saying
They told me that the PowerTrain warranty didn't cover 'emissions components'
