I know this comes up often, so let me apologize in advance for the wall of newbie questions!
Right now I have some sort of spacer lift on my CRD and 265/70/16's. The wheels are stock, and I get rubbing from the front tires on the unibody (from the front of the tires). I'm at 21.5" front and 21.25" rear on both sides from hub center to flare. I have no idea how much higher I can go based on those numbers, maybe someone here does
I'm not going to be doing much offroading with it as I have a trail rig already, and this is like my fun commuter rig. I just want it to look awesome, and also get my rpm's down a bit at highway speeds.
Now initially I really wanted to run 285/75/16's but after doing some research that look like too much of a task to contend with when just using the typical smaller lift, and anything 4-6" is ungodly expensive and isn't worth it for me. If I could get 4-6" without spending 2k and doing a ton of fabrication it would be fine, but it looks like I'm going to be dealing with a smaller lift of sorts.
I'm looking to run 265/75/16's on 16x8, 4" backspacing, or maybe some 33x10.5/15's that I found for sale nearby, but I don't want to commit to one over the other until I have some stuff sorted out.
From what I understand I have to be careful how high I lift because of the shorter CV on the CRD getting bound up. But wouldn't the cv get bound up at full droop anyway if that's the case? Regardless, I remember seeing a person who had mounted a limiting strap to prevent that from happening and avoided having to have the cv's cut down, so I figure I can do something like that, too.
I was also wondering, since I don't have a complete grasp on how everything goes around here yet, if I could get away with running the OME lift in combination w/ my current spacers. Or if I just just strip out whats under there and go w/ a Frankenlift or whatever. I'll probably need the A-arms, too, right?
Ultimately I don't want to end up thousands of dollars in the hole with not much to show for it. A 32" tire is the minimum I want to do. But I also don't want to have to hack the rig up just yet. Inner fender Modifications I'm ok with, as well as sacrificing some wheel travel via bumpstops and limiting straps to keep things from getting destroyed, but I'm NOT ready to tear into the outer sheetmetal. Unless there are some cut out flares I haven't seen or heard about...
anyway hope my questions are legible and thanks to whomever answers
