hay guys I bought a hitch today. has anyone tried to install one of these on there own ? I bought a class 2 reese. it requires that you use the existing holes in the frame and bolt it up. big problem is that the holes are pretty rusted, and it turns out the little town i live in, car quest does not carry the required 12mm tap. any idea's ? .

You are going to have to clean the holes out.

I just did not know if i should go with the 12mm bolts that the kit comes with (if thats the correct size) or if i should go up one size, or maybe just scrap the bolts and get someone to weld it?

DO NOT WELD ON YOUR HITCH!
12mm x 1.75mm x 40mm hardened bolts is what they are. I went with the 10.9, I think, hardened metric bolt. Go buy the 12mm x 1.75 tap and tap out the holes. It is just major rust in the hole, very easy to do properly and install yourself. Once the holes are tapped just lay the hitch in your lap as you lay on your back, lift it up into place and use your knee's for the other side to hold up. Swing around and throw in the other bolts, simple really. Note, if you can't get the bolts at the dealer just find a good quality hardware store, check the auto parts houses or like what I had to do was go to a industrial fastener supplier I use to get them ASAP.
Good luck. :JEEPIN:

Class 2? Might want a Class 3 to tow safer.

Class 2 will be fine if he's not towing anything much. Believe Class 2 is 3,500 lbs and 350lbs tongue weight. I personally have a hitch rated for 7,500 lbs even thought the Jeep can only tow 5,000.
