Has anyone had a updated fuel head leak on them at the heater plug? Any other issues with it or did they fix the bugs and its a simple bolt on piece with no splicing? As far as lift pumps are concerned I feel they are not needed, not much talk about failed injection pumps therefore another headache and thing to watch is not really required. Yes you have to hand prime but its simple, try hand priming these new cat motors for Peterbilt PITA! I just want a stock replacement part that does what it needs to do. If the updated fuel head does that please let me know so i can get one on the way.

No leaks from the new head. Easy to install, it does involve wire splicing but it is accessible and easy to do. You don't need a lift pump until you need one. I do not have one and so far (80K miles) it i working fine. But I know that if certain symptoms show up I will look for air leaks and go with a pump and new connectors to deal with that problem. I have not had any problems with my CRD but I try to be preventative with a Provent, SAMCO hoses and a GDE Eco tune. A pump may fall in this category. If I were more handy I might have one put in already but with the CRD humming along I just keep an eye out for emerging problems.

I don't have the updated fuel head, but If I was running the original stock unit, I'd replace it with the updated head. Not sure if you can get it done under warranty or not.

I was chasing air in fuel problems that started after I changed the fuel filter for the 3rd time. I installed the Racor 245 before the new fuel head became available. That didn't cure it until I installed the Dodge in-tank lift pump and replaced the flexible fuel lines to the tank. That cured all my issues with fueling.

If you get a big enough air pocket around the fuel heater, it will over heat and fry the plastic.
This is the main flaw with the design.
A lift pump will greatly reduce/eliminate any air pockets and reduce the tendency to fry the heater.

Pesky Laws of Physics.

Installed the new updated head this afternoon and was very straight forward. Primed the bulb 15 times and was good to go no issues and looks very clean/oem thanks for the help and will keep you updated on the new version fuel head.

If your asking because you think yours might have come with the new one forget it :seuss:

Both the improved fuel head and improved torque converter came out after they stopped producing CRD's for the US.

Ah, but I'm in England and mine was made in 2005:) :D I've just (a month ago) had the new TC fitted under the end of the warranty when the old one started showing signs of shudder:)

The easiest way to tell if you have the updated one is to look at the fuel heater plug, its about the same size as the other plug whereas the old style was half the size of the other plug. Plus there is a part number on the actual fuel head for you to verify.

Fuel/water separator assembly (with new filter) 68043089AA $76.20

Wire harness kit 68043086AA $10.75

Now you need to get a tune and let the horses run :JEEPIN: I've got the GDE "full torque ECHO tune" and it's fantastic with my new TC towing our camper (Caravan there) :SOMBRERO:

I have a new head on my LTD, another head in a box for the Sport. The Sport stopped giving me problems after a filter change and bleeding with a funnel and clean fuel. So I am going to save the new filter head for the next filter change, should it go that far?
