Since the economy is a bust and my Libby is paid off, the wife and I have decided it would be best to just keep our Libby for 5 more years.. So far it's been a great Jeep.. Only thing serviced is the alternator.. And I am in the middle of fixing a battery issue.. For some reason, Chrysler in it's dumbest moves, went really cheap on the batteries.. My got a crack and ate the neg connector to the wiring harness.. That is another post in the Electrical section...

I am just wondering if there is anything I need to look at for.. I have followed the service manual to a T.. This is my DD and I drive 40 miles round trip each day.. I have around 55K miles.. I know the Transmission, Trans case, diffs, and oil all need to be changed at 60k miiles.. Just asking for advice.. I really need to keep this thing running for 5 more years... Oh, I changed my tires.. I got 54K miles on the original from the factory SR-As.. I know people have complained about them... But I got great service out of them.. Rotated them every oil change.. They just got beat up from road construction... So I got some General Grabber AT2 tires and LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!!! For the money, I couldn't beat it and they have me road hazard.. Putting them on made me want to take her off road some where... :JEEPIN:

Hey.. Any advice or things to look for would be awesome..

My advice is simple, drive it!! At 56K miles that KJ is still a spring chicken. Keep on the maint sched and you should enjoy many more trouble free years.

That is from road salt.. I grew up in WV.. I know about those things.. I live on the Coast of SC.. If it snows flurries, people panic.. I just laugh..

Yeah.. It has been a great Jeep.. Just an electrical gremlin that is due to a bad battery wiring harness..

My 06 is 5 years old and about 2k from 50k. Sadly I still have to pay it off because I bought it semi used in 2008. Hoping that our payment plan will have it paid off before the 5 year mark.

Just keep doing regular maintenance on it and you'll be fine. With the low miles you do it will only hit 100,000 in 5 years anyways! :ROTFL:
My 04 has 150,000 on it and no problems, I'm pretty anal on doing all the fluids, tuneups etc. I would not be afraid to take off for Cali in the AM just checking the oil and tire pressure. Just did a run to DC and back last weekend (about 1000 miles) and never thought a thing about how many miles it has on it
And there's one lifted FJ Cruiser that now knows that Lifted Liberty's run pretty good in the hills of PA!

Been thinking of the JBA steel diff replacement.. Coil over conversion.. :JEEPIN: But before that I have to get my old YJ back on the road.. Not to sell.. To drive.. It's our first Jeep and we miss her.. It's a Jeep thing... You'll understand.. :D

I still miss my first Jeep at times, it was a beat up junky Jeep that I sold back in 1973, didn't hurt it to hit a tree, would go anywhere, just not fast, couldn't kill her, just kept plugging along wired, chained, welded and bolted back together every other day it seemed like.
Been 19 Jeeps of various descriptions since her though all with different personalities :JEEPIN:

Keep an eye on your hoses. There are 4 (I think) hoses near the back of the driver side bumper that all rub against each other. Around 34,000 my power steering hose developed a leak from the rubbing and those things are not cheap to replace. After it was fixed I got some plastic hose covers as some added protection and now at 72,000 miles I need to replace those covers again.

I have an 02 Libby with 175,000 miles. I bought it at 145,000. All highway miles up until i got it.

At 170k I had to rebuild the trans.
Before that, I had to replace the...
radiator
heater core
ignition (twice)
Battery
Trans pan (before I shattered the trans)
tires (obviously)
rims painted (twice)
seats resown
floor mats (holes from road salt and wear)
oil burning problem
CV Joint (replaced whole front Driveshaft)
torque converter bolts retightened (knocking sound that scared me to death)
muffler (due to rust)

I know its a long list and its costed me more than the cars worth, but gotta love the libby...drives like a champ now.

Soon
New shocks, hopefully along with a lift
new front bumper because of accident
lots more

I've got 225,000 miles on my 2002. (Sadly, I'm on engine No. 2 -- the first one died at 196,000). Other than that, just the usual wear-and-tear things: front driveshaft, an alternator or two, a/c compressor, TPS, etc.

Take good care of it and it'll last a long time.

How hard is it to swap engines? And do you think a 4.7L V8 would fit?

I have an 06 CRD that is comming up on 5 years old and has 56,000 miles on it. I bought in august of 2009 with 38,000 miles. so far no major trouble other than thermostat and the battery. Even the Optima that came in the CRD wasn't that great.....I had to replace mine early last winter. so far its been as good as or maybe better then the Subaru I traded for it. I have never had it in the shop for anything but maintance stuff that I didn't feel like doing, checking the brakes and changing differential fluids. I plan to keep Eugine for as long as I can. the transmission fluids and serpine belt I am going to have changed in the spring, then the coolant when I get the 192°F thermostat.

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuure, How much money you got? And how long can it be down where you can't drive it? I'm 5 mos. in and ran out of money ( due to an unfortunate job loss! ) , but a 5.0 is going into mine!! After I get some money coming in again I'm still 3-4 more mos. out! How much mechanical ability you got? Does it need to be smog legal? Anything's possible with enough welds and bolts!!!! Literally hundreds of little things other than just whether or not it will physically fit to consider tho'! Right TJ? (He tried to warn me! But I don't listen very well! ) :banghead: :SOMBRERO:
