I have had my 2010 Jeep Liberty for less than 1 year with 7000 miles on it. Today I brought it in for service because the material becoming frayed where I sit. They took a picture and sent it to Jeep and they approved to have the seat cover replaced. But I wander if others are having the same problem it seems odd it would be just my Jeep with defective material. They told me it could be from a bad batch from a manufacturer. They said if it wears again they will replace it again. Hope that is not the case time will tell. Hope that it is not a bad choice for material that Chrysler chose for the upholstery. That could be a very expensive recall for Chrysler that is trying to recover financially.

I have a 2010, 6000 miles. I am getting the same exact wear. So the dealership is replacing the seat cover under warranty? I might do the same if it starts to get bad. Keep us posted.

I think they used cheap stitching. My seats are okay for now, but the e-brake handle and a few other odd places are ripped and frayed. And I have under 5000 miles.

Seems like a 2010 and up issues. I have a 2008 KK with 81K and no real wear anywhere and I'm a big boy ;)

Interesting, I just noticed this happening to my seats a few weeks ago. The gray material in the middle of the seat is really frayed in a couple of spots for some reason. Next time I take it in I'll have to ask them about it.

I have an appointment for monday to have the seat cover replaced under warranty. I was told by Chrysler it may be defective material from a manufacture. It sounded like all the material for the upholstery of the Libertys has not been from the same manufacture. I hope the material their replaceing it with is not defective too.

That's one of many problems now with "all" auto manufactures, even some of the high dollar one's. Cutting corners to make a few bucks profit here and there. I'd much rather pay more for something "knowing" it's quality rather than something thats gona break or wear out prematurely. Few years ago I owned a 98 Bentley Coupe and after just a few years, stiching of some of the leather started to stetch and pull through some of the leather seating. Bought it used at a good price but sold it due to to high maintenance. Bought the Wife a 05 E-320 CDI Merc. that in my opinion is much better built regarding interior than the Bentley, more dependable, much better milage and easy to drive.

The dealership replaced the seat cover under warranty monday, but in doing so they accidently damaged the plastic trim around the bottom of the seat. Now we are waiting for the part or parts that had to be ordered. Another trip back to the dealer. The new seat cover looks good! David

It is happening again the seat fabric is fraying again after 4 months from it being repaced for the same problem. Chrysler has said they would work with me to correct the problem. I am sure something will be worked out in time to correct the problem. David

I have an '09 and the seat is fraying in the middle of the seat. I just assumed it was normal "wear and tear" from my wallet being in my back pocket all the time. I will try and take a picture and see if it is the same as what you all are experiencing.

That looks like exactly what I'm seeing as well. Mine is not quite as widespread (yet ;)), but it looks the same. In my case, I figured it was because some of my shorts have velcro pockets in the back that were catching on the material. So far I haven't had the dealer look at it, but I probably will ask about it before my warranty is up.

Yes that is what my seat looks like. The first time the dealer took a picture and called the next day and said they would replace the seat cover. Now that it is happening again they said they would get back with me within two days, I was told there could be a possible recall. The seat wear is not normal, my 2004 Liberty I traded in on the 2010 the seats looked the same as they did when I bought the car new. I have never had a vehicle with seat upholstery that would wear out this way. I don"t know what they will decide to do time will tell. David
