Hi guys im totally new here so apollagies if im doing things wrong.
I have a Jeep liberty 2.5 crd 03 reg and im in the UK
For a month or two my jeep hasnt been starting after i drive it a while and park up.at first i sprayed easy start into the air filter and it fired up straight away, now this isnt working at all.
I use injector cleaner in my tank every month or so and it starts cold everytime.
i get no warning lights on dash, ive heard it could be crank sensor but dont want to change it unless ive got a better idea if its that.
it seems that its always after 1 hr of letting it stand,it will fire up again.
Please help

Guys i was given the answer to this problem today by a member of jeepkj.com,i drove my jeep and parked up on my drive.30 mins later tried to start it and it wouldnt fire up.I popped the bonnet and unscrewed the pump on fuel filter case, pumped it till i felt resistence and screwed it back down.My jeep fired up first time! so i guess it was air in the fuel system somewhere.

Ah same problem today, thought priming the fuel filter had sorted it,but i drove an hour today, came home, and after 30 mins no fire up.
So i tried priming the filter and tried starting,no show.
I did this a dozen times and still no fire up.
After leaving it an hour it fired up and drove no problem. Its always the same, leave an hour and its fine :(
Will try replace fuel filter and crank position sensor next i think.

When was the last time you replaced the fuel filter? That could be the problem.

Hi Gareth,

It sould like it's time to change it. If you are looking for Part try Jeepchryslerparts on Ebay http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/jeepchryslerparts&ssPageName=STRK:MEFSX:SELLERID&_trksid=p3984.m1543.l2533, they have given me an excellent service, very quick and worked out half the price than my local Jeep Dealer.

Cheers pippobug i will check that out.im also wondering if i put too much oil in when i changed it.when i look at the dipstick the flat portion on the bottom of the long wire is covered to the top.not sure if a little too much oil would give me the problem and my exhaust has zero smoke.

Gareth,
I would think so, you might get the odd puff of white smoke as it burns the excess but that is it but that should have been when you first changed the oil. Mine is the same, it pretty much sits on the top bar.

One another note, do you know about Jeep Club UK? it closed but now some members have stated it up again, here is the link if you are interested : http://www.jeep-club.co.uk.

my jeep problem has progressed, yesterday it cut out while waiting at traffic lights.got going after about 10 mins.i noticed on my fuel filter, the clear plastic bowl at the base was a bit loose,i hand tightened it and i started the jeep.not sure if that had anything to do with it?

If the bowl is to loose it would leak fuel all over the place.

What I had with mine is that the nylon plug on top starts to leak and sucks in air. If you pump manually and put some pressure on the filter you can see it coming out. Also, instead of the OEM filter, you can use a Racor Parker R21S or R25S. Cheaper and better.
