I'm having transmission problems with my 05 CRD with 110,000 miles. The other day there was an episode of 3 shudders combined with a CEL. The codes P0700 and P0714 are transmission related. Other symptoms are the car often hesitates if you try to go immediately into reverse at start up. Recently I've noticed an increase in road noise and wonder now if it too may be related. It has had the F37 recall and a dealer drain and fill around 98,000 miles.

The car still seems to drive and shift OK, so nothing is seriously broken yet. Any ideas on what might be wrong and how I can get this fixed for a reasonable price?

Thanks

I just bought a 2006 crd sport 4 weeks ago and am having same issue. I get a loud road noise around 50 mph that goes away around 60 mph. Took it to dealer last week because i was having a hesitation on the 2 3 shift and a very long hesitation on the 3 4 shift. They changed the one trany filter said it was split and refilled trany charged me 200. I think they set it into the drive learn mode because it shifted like butter for a week and now is starting to shift a little like it did before just not as bad. I would realy like to know if this is torque converter or something else. It had the f37 done in 2006. I am realy starting to regret buying this thing it is starting to be a pos. I also had to remove the front drive shaft at work today because when i got there it was on fire at the rear cv joint that took care of the vibration but still have loud road noise at those speeds and shudder every now and then dont no if it is fuel filter head or torque conv because the fuel filter head started leaking after i changed the filter when i bought it. I used some silicone to stop this leak for now until i can afford to repair all that is wrong with this pos. When i test drove this it shifted like butter it has 111000 miles and yes i know i need timing belt change. I was ordering all the parts for change when all this other crap started.

700 is a generic transmission fault, and 714 is fluid temp. Sounds like it might be slipping a lot and heating the fluid?

It's possible the increased drag from the failing CV caused the transmission to do this.

The noise could be.. u-joints?

Wondering if the original problem (CV binding) was the initial problem and it caused subsequent failures you're seeing.

I'd work through the u-joints and CVs to check them all, get a dealer or transmission shop to 'fast learn' the TCM again once everything is back to normal, and see if it will remain stable? Find that noise..

Sounds exactly like what I was going through which ended up being the Torque Converter. Well, the TC finally went out and I ended up having to replace it which I did with a Suncoast TC. It runs amazing now. The stock torque converter is a major weak link in the drive train. The 545rfe transmission is an awesome truck transmission and is very reliable.

This sounds possible, I had assumed the noise could be tire noise from worn aggressive tread tires but that doesn't really fit. Something else must be causing the noise. The rear u-joint was replaced about 10,000 miles ago so I wasn't considering it. It possible it's bad or maybe the front. Would the CV's make noise in 2 wheel drive when driving straight?

I do not think it is in front axle or hubs I have checked there is no heat at hub bearings after 60 mile drive and both half shafts feel good. This libby drives straight as an arrow with no play at all in steering. I have checked my u joints in rear just by trying to rotate drive shaft by hand in park to see if there was any play and they seem tight no play. So i am really leaning towards converter since the other symptoms seem to suggest it is in tranny. The road noise at 50 to 60 is a higher more pronounced noise like a tire then after 64 final shift it has started to become a lower frequency whaaa whaa sound and the shifts can be some what erattic at times. Dont no if the shudder i have felt from time to time is air in fuel or tranny it almost feels like it is shifting in and out of 2 gears like it doesnt no which on to choose just happens in a short cycle.

I have an update put my lift pump back on and i think the shudder like shifting might have been air in fuel. Then I put some dr tranny additive in the trans and the noises have gotten alot quieter. The shifting from 2 3 and 3 4 still has a hesitation it might come out I dont know because it doesnt do it all the time. If I shut od off it shifts good but when i turn od on it will shift hard into od. So I think my tc is on its way out. I just hope when i change it the shifting will go back to normal.

Well the dr tranny only worked a day and the noise is back. So I went ahead and ordered the new mopar tc and transgo shift kit. I was going to do this job my self but have decided since the upper part of the shift kit is a little more technical than I feel confortable doing. I have a shop that will change tc an install shift kit for $500. This is a repuatable trans shop so I hope this takes care of the problem. Then I can get my tb changed and enjoy this libby instead of working on it. Oh I almost forgot about the front drive shaft. Does anybody have a good alternative to stock cv joints in the front drive shaft? I will post and update after tc install.
