Howdy all,

Been lurking for a while now and have learned some great stuff about my 03 KJ sport. I just had a new set of Firestone Destination ATs mounted yesterday - what a differnece from the Goodyear Eagle RSAs (JUNK) that came on my Libby from the dealer. Anyway, the tire guys mounted the new tires with the white lettering to the inside of the vehicle. I thought that was kind of weird. I think I'll take it back and have them re-do it with the letters out (why have OWL then?) - unless you all can think of a reason the having them inside IS best. Kind of a simple question - but I thought I'd ask. Any thoughts?

I mounted mine with black out--and painted the inside letters black. The white lettering looks like crap after the first few times in the dirt.

i got new tires over christmas and the guys at wallyworld put the tires on with black side out.. at first it was strange looking.. but i was like.. what the heck.. i can always get them to change back whenever i go back for free rotation.. but now after having them like that for a few months.. i kinda like it all black.. :) give them a call and tell them you might want them changed back.. then take a few days and see what you think..

I've got my outside white letters on the OUTSIDE. I think it makes the tire look a little bigger. I have seen many people put them on the inside b/c, like NEAL said, they get dirty pretty easily.............which is tru. But if you spray GREASED LIGHTNING on your tire...you will instantly see the white foam turn a copper brown....and it takes the dirt off in a heart beat. It makes the tire look like new...............I'll keep my OWL's on the outside.

I kinda like the white lettering facing in with the all black side out. Unfortunately, mine were mounted with the white lettering out. I know for next time though.

BFG's are great because the white lettering goes all the way into the letter, i dunno about other tires, but i keep mine on the outside, i just use a medium to heavy bristle scrub brush found in the cleaning aisle and then some armor all tire spray foam, tire looks good as new and nice and shiney....prevents cracking!

Hey Neal, what did you use to paint the white letters. Might want to try it.

I just used black spray paint, I'm sure there may be something better, but it's only a tire. Some wears off a little but is not very noticeable.

good reason if you offroad the white lettering will start to tear and the black around the lettering tears off so you see white background then it looks ghetto.

Have my tires on the KJ mounted white lettering out and they have been trashed and look like it

Thanks for the input. Sounds like it is mostly an apperance vs. practicality issue when wheeling. I m a bit torn between the desire for the tires to look a bit bigger (as I, too, think the letters would do) - I went with 235-70-16s, and how it will eventually look after some off-road work. As I most ly do light-to-medium off road stuff I may opt for the letters out. This is a great sight. I have actually enjoyed my Lib more since finding it.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but do you think a black sharpie would work? Do you have a pic of the tire you spray painted. You can post it here or email it to me at mk_04@hotmail.com which ever is easier. Thanks.

It's funny but in reading the posts it looks like the guys that wanted the white lettering out got them mounted in by the tire guy and vice-versa. I guess you have to remember to tell them. They really should ask though.

I used "Westley's Bleach White" to clean them on my other truck when I wash it. Spray on -brush it - and they come out snow-white. (tires look brand new) You can get it almost anywhere and it's not expensive.

I had mine mounted white lettering out. I personally like the look of them, and I get alot of compliments on how the Revo's look on the KJ. So when people ask "what kinda tire are you runnin on your Jeep" all i have to do is point to it.

I'll second the Westleys Bleach White. I use that stuff on the tires and the wheels and it gets them pretty darn clean. I dont even have to scrub usually. Just spray on, let it work in for about 30 seconds, and wash off with a hard stream.

I've always heard using stuff like Greased Lightning and Simple Green and other degreasers are bad for the rubber....as it dries out the rubber and makes it crack prematurely.

I use this: http://www.eagleone.com/pages/products/core_wheeltire.asp

It really get all the brake dust and dirt off the wheels and tires. I used the previous formula (have 2 bottles, when i finish it will get the new formula).

Don't like the look of the white letters. Does anyone have a way of making them black.
