Well my girlfriend was due for a new ride and the CRD had to go. Did not want to pay for registration on on 4 vehicles.

Just wanted to say Thanks for all the help over the years!

If Ram used a Cummins in the new 1500 I might have gone that route but after all the little Chrysler issues the CRD had I am not going to try the new VM.
She liked the new Ford Escape and the 2L ecoboost has decent mileage and can still haul 3,000 lbs if we need it to. Anything larger and the diesel F250 will take care of it.

Her new ride.

Again Thanks for all the HELP over the year's

Take care.

Looks nice, sad to see you leave!

I almost got an Escape for the wife (we had an 07 earlier that was great) but we really wanted a third row. Enjoy!

The 5.0l V8 Cummins due to arrive in the Nissan in the next model year (hopefully) could shake up the truck market if it is implemented well. A 3.0l seems a bit undersized for the 1500 class trucks if pulling loads. 4.0 to 5.0l would be better matched. Displacement is still king for towing and maintaining decent fuel economy.

If the Nissan sells well, GM and Ford will bring their smaller diesel engines out of mothballs. An unloaded 1500 truck should be able to hit 30 mpg with a mid sized diesel and more use of aluminum structure in the body. With CAFE looming, truck design will need to leapfrog in the next 4-5 years.

Glad things worked out well for your wife.

If only because of the excessive size that 1500 series trucks have grown to, I have to agree that a 3.0 liter class may not be large enough.

I passed a Ford Ranger in traffic today, and was amazed that it was roughly the same size as my Jetta wagon! Talk about a 'baby truck' when the average F150 seems to be a dang behemoth. I rented an F150 last year (bone stock rental) when I still had my CRD... That thing felt enormous to drive and park.

With the size difference between the Ranger and the 1500 size trucks, it does seem that there is a market segment being missed of a mid-size between tiny and ginormous. The Ranger could easily be served by a 1.9l TDI motor, (Hmm, conversion project!) and the mid-size could be served by a 3.0...

The GM Colorado (small pickup) is sold with VM engine in South America (same 2.8l CRD used in European Wrangler, with some GM custom mods). GM has hinted at bringing this back to the US if market conditions change. It is plenty of truck for the lower price point and would be fine for many folks that never make full use of a full sized truck. It does over 30 mpg!!

I think it is styled well (enough) also!

Dammit. I'm a Ford man, driving a Chevy just isn't something I thought I would ever do. That actually doesn't look bad at all. Why does it have to have a VM engine? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Other options that exist with diesel engines (of course, not here!): The VW Caddy that looks surprisingly similar to the Ford Transit Connect.
The rumored-and-upcoming cummins-powered Nissan truck. That could be very interesting if it happens and doesn't lose any of the Cummins reliability.
Ford Rangers, with an unknown diesel.

Why are the people in the USA prevented from getting these vehicles? :banghead:

Hi-jack? What hi-jack?

After that picture of the Amarok, all I see is that this has turned into a porn thread. You owe me a new keyboard from all the drool that just shorted it out.

Darn-it!, Thanks for making me go spend 20 minutes looking at the Amarok. Now I'm drooling over a solid frame, VW interior, TDI engine, and actual offroad capability....but not for the US.

If Ford would just suck up their pride and get Cummins in their trucks they would be unstoppable, I know I would go trade my 7.3L F250 in on a new factory Ford Cummins!!

I am an American car buyer but I have to say I would buy that VW over the Chevy pictured!

Thanks Keith, I hope the little Ram diesel sells well just so it will wake the others up!! But I don't think I want to try another VM at the moment, humm.
What are you driving now days?

No, but she loves going for "Ride's" so if I am anywhere near the car so is she!

Thanks, its not a "real 4x4" but is is 4wd. I really hate the new school "intelligent 4WD", I am a fan of the manual 4WD when I want it type. But I guess it is good for a girl, she never has to think about it since it is just there when she needs it.

The 3.0L Diesel looks especially unappealing when you consider the ford ecoboost is making as much torque at almost the same RPM, but is also making 125 more hp at the big end

I just read in my new diesel power magazine that the 2014 Colorado will have both a 2.5L and 2.8L diesel option in the US. I'm not sure why the 2.5L will be offered but I sure hope it's true!

Could it be that the 2.5L is with a standard transmission and the 2.8L is with an Automatic?
