I will call Brent at PML tomorrow and see if we could do call in with our credit cards and when they get the ten people they bill us and do the machining and send them out to us. How does that sound?

When I talked to Brent at PML he said he would post the sale in Venders alley. I just checked and nothing has been posted, he said they would not if it required a membership fee or comission to the website.

Ripster I didn't get the email till just a few minutes ago because my ISP had it in the SPAM section. Been having a lot of trouble with that new service.

Old Navy sounds good to me.
Here is the contact person at PML for whomever becomes the group buy chairman.
And the message from Brett Lottman
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
This is how we would approach it. The cover would be mounted to our vertical mill. A fly cutter would be used to mill off the fins at a certain height parallel to the gasket surface. The ring gear bulge sticks out the furthest at the 4th fin from the bottom. We would set the mill to cut the fins flush with the ring gear bulge on the 4th fin. More fin would be left on the part as we moved upward or downward away from the 4th fin. This is going to give you 3/8" more clearance so the part would be 3 5/8" deep instead of 4".

If we have to set-up the mill to machine 1 part at a time, the charge to do this will be $40. If a group of 10 or more people want to have the same thing done in one batch, the machining charge would drop to $25 per part.

Regards,

I had a typo in my posting above and had "with out credit card" it should have said "with our credit card" below is the revised idea of how the GB would be done. Sorry guys.

I will call Brent at PML tomorrow morning and see if we could do a call in with our credit cards and when they get the ten people they bill us and do the machining and send them out to us. Is everyone ok with this idea?

How to order the PML Cover.

I was first.

Here is the info on what we are buying, pricing and ordering instructions.

Here is how we will work getting a batch of parts milled at the same time so we can offer you guys the lower extra machining cost of $25 per cover. Each person who wants a cover can contact me directly and I'll take down their shipping and billing information. Their order will be set aside until we have 10 orders. At that point credit cards will be billed and we'll go ahead and set up the mill and do the extra machining. Finished parts will be shipped directly to each customer.

Total cost for the parts will be as follows:
As-cast $175+$25+shipping
Black powder coat $215+$25+shipping
Polished $285+$25+shipping

We cover our cost on shipping and don't charge handling. The part in the box weighs 7lb (12" x 11" x 4") if you want to check on shipping on the UPS website. Our zip code is 90302. You can also just give me a call and with your zip code I'll let you know the cost. Shipping will be as fast as you're willing to pay.

Concerning turnaround. Once we have 10 orders it will likely take a week or so to get the machining done. It may be quicker depending what is going on in our machine shop at the time. Powder coated parts will take an additional week. Polished parts 2 additional weeks.

The end result is going to be a corporate 10 bolt 8.25 diff cover that is 3 5/8" deep instead of 4" to provide more clearance for those of you with the gas tank skid plate. It will still have the threaded drain & fill plugs and hold 3/4 quart more oil than stock, but will have less fins.

You need to call Brent at PML, not me. He is taking the orders, Ripster & I just did the leg work to get this set up for us. I guess I need to edit the posting to make it clear who takes the orders.

I ordered the plain one also shipmate.

I wonder if my Rock Ring would fit over this. Maybe I'll just sell the Rock Ring and get this cover! That drain plug is so tempting.....

The guy from PML made a post in the vendors section about the rock rings not working with the covers...

This is probably the most time saving mod so far, and with increased capacity will cool the temps.
Don't let this offer die for lack of respondents.

I would be in but already have the regular cover enroute, expect to trip over a box on my doorstep any day now.

No, don't have the skid plate. Figure if I ever need to put a skid plate on, will take the disk grinder to it.
Off work on Tuesday, hope to have the cover by then and get this done. Half afraid to call the bus company to ask to use their shop. It's their busy season, get roped into working everytime I call. Wanted to change oil last Saturday, instead ended up in Niagara Falls.

I just measured my clearance, with skidplate installed, and it's every bit of 5" from the back of the diff housing to the skidplate. Maybe 5 1/4". It doesn't look like the axle can ever move back so far that with a 4" deep cover it would contact the plate, because of the way the linkage is set up. I think a lot of people should not need their pan milled.

I think you need to go back to page 3 and see what we are talking about, there is only about one inch between the the new finned housing and the fuel tank. With my measuring of difference in sizes of the rear end cover I would have somewhere between 3/8 to 5/8 inch wiggle room between the fuel skid and PML differential cover.

And on mine it's only 4 1/2 inches at most. That's the point, with the fuel tank skid plate, there could be a good bit of slop in the mounting holes, such that yours is slid to the rear, while mine is slid forward. Same for the way the fuel tank is mounted.

Plus, on PML's standard cover, it's 4 inches deep for the full width and height of the cover, not just a bulge over the main gear as on the factory cover.

And as PML pointed out, this cover was originally designed for a Dakota truck, with nothing behind the diff and no worries as far as clearance.

So Mitch are you saying we don't need the milling done? I have both skid and OEM trailor hitch on our Liberty and would not like to have to loosen up the fuel tank to try and slide it back with both of those on the Libby.
