I was told that it's common on the 3.7s. Any truth to that?

It happened to me last summer. Oil slinging all over the hot exhaust headers smells fun. :grim: But that was my bad engine that spun a rod bearing in April. :dead: I don't know if it's common in KK's in general. (I do know there is no connection between a bad front seal and a rod bearing problem like I had, so don't worry about that.)

I think Poncherello on JF had the same problem too. Luckily it's a tiny leak. My mechanic said only a drop or 2. I don't get oil in the street by my girlfriend's house. That's where my Jeep spent most of the summer and always in the exact same spot. Yet every once and a blue moon I get a small spot in my paved driveway...

I added some heavy mud.
But don't know how to add pictures.
Oh, and my 19.5 gallon tank now only holds 19.1 gallons.

Is that an easy thing to do?

Not hard at all. Maybe a 2 minute job at most. The filters are behind a little rectangular door in your HVAC housing, located behind the glove box. The first filter pulls straight out, and the second one slides left and then out. Here is what you're looking for:

The filters are usually about $25 at the dealer and the auto parts store, but you can find them on Amazon for $11.

Just in case someone looks behind their glove box and their filter is gone.

Nope it wasn't stolen.. It was an option for the Liberty. So my lungs are black as his dirty filter.

That's a stupid thing to have as an option, I wonder if they changed it after 2010.

What do these filters run? I'm about to have a baby so I don't want my newborn to have lungs like that lol

Not sure about 09s or 10s, but 11-12 has them standard. My only options are 4x4 and the sky slider and I have them. If you don't have it, you can always retrofit one.

My 2008 Sport did not come with this. I retrofitted it using MtnLuvr's spot-on instructions: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=104&t=41921&start=0

My old HVAC housing in the trash after the install:

This pic shows where the filters intercept all the dust and dirt as the air comes in. I had the cowl under the windshield wipers disassembled for the retrofit operation. There is a screen that goes over the top of this area, but it only stops the big stuff.

In terms of cost, I am sure I was able to do this mod for under $100. That includes the first set of paper filters. The parts list is in MtnLuvr's thread that I linked to above.

I just always leave my air on recirculating. Yes I get to smell my stale farts again but it's better than diesel fumes.

I was determined to do something with the Jeep today since I got to work the morning shift.
Cleaned the 4.7L throttle body and tightened up my battery cables.
I also tried to tighten the battery itself because it seems to move easily by hand...
I tried tightening the bolt that I think tightens it, but it still moves a bit more than I'd like.
Excited for a test drive tonight. On the look out for a cheap used car for my mom since she apparently has a cracked engine block on her Ford Taurus.

Gage, I hear ya on wanting to do something with the KK. I topped off the washer fluid and zapped all of the hinges with WD-40. The gas door was particularly in need of that.

What do you plan on tying in to where that tube passes through the grille?

If you find the WD-40 isn't lasting long try using garage door chain lube
