So the rearend our '03 KJ has developed a squeaking over the past couple of weeks that has gotten worse. It's similar sounding to the front sway bar bushings when they need replaced. I haven't had a chance go get under the rig yet but should be able to tonight and wanted some ideas of where to check and how to try and replace suspension movement when the KJ is parked?

It is really only noticeable when driving slowly over bumps or backing out of the driveway type of movements. Not a constant squeak while driving. It almost sounds like a spring squeaking on the axle pearch or a shock going bad.

Our KJ has 182K miles on the odometer. I have replaced the front and rear shocks ~ 2 years back, have replaced the CV joint in the front driveshaft a couple times and other maintenance on the rig is up to date. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

On my 02, I'm pretty sure the back seat squeaks a little and also the seal on the back window. It is especially noticeable offroad.

Do check the torque on all the bolts on the rear suspension. Had one of the rear LCA bolts back off quite a bit and was lucky to catch it before something bad happened.

My tail gate squeaks a little when flexing on different angles even over large speed bumps on the road.

Update: Wife got home (she drives the KJ 98% of the time) and when pulling in the garage it appears the rear brakes were squealing. Then when she backed up, brake sqeal, forward and applied the brakes and squeal. So I'm guessing it's the rear brakes.

I replaced the rear brake pads and the pass rr rotor just this past Spring. I used Napa's mid-grade pad and rotor. There is lot of pad material left. Also I jacked up the rear and spun the tires and there was no squeal or noise and I also had her tap the brake pad while I spun the wheels and there was no sound aND the brakes stopped the wheels. So without any stress or load on the Jeep the brakes were quiet.

Any ideas or suggestions what I need to do next or do I need to take the rr brakes apart and reassemble to see if that fixes it?

This might sound patronizing, but it may be that you didn't put enough anti-squeal compound on the shims on the back of the pads. I never use those little packetd, but buy a suit botyle.

Not at all... these pads have the plastic/material type pads that fit between the pad back and caliper. So I didn't use any of the 'gluey type' material. I may just take it all apart this weekend and add brake quiet to the pads and make sure they're bled again and see if that fixes it.
