I'm getting ready to do this job - only remaining part that I'm waiting for is the thermostat.
I've watched the Sir Sam video(s) and have read many writeups. I'm trying to understand the need for the VM1085. Is it *only* so that the torque is not applied to the camshaft locating pins? Is that why

Or does the VM1085 do something more?
Thanks,
Yes its mainly to hold the torque since they are a press fit.
Its also possible to torque the locking pins out of place and damage the head and threads makes the timing holes useless in the future. Ask me how I know. DO IT, ASK ME HOW I KNOW!
