Hey Group,
After my second broken window regulator, I did a bunch of searches and checked out all the web sites that you guys suggested. What I came up with was that I can get a replacement regulator from the dealer for $183 and I don't need a glass. My driver side broke about two years ago and the dealer fixed it for about $400. Now my passenger side spiral cable is poking out and it looks like the same thing is wrong. The plastic tude that retains the spiral cable failed. This didn't look like the kind of problem that the repair kit from Steiger Performance would fix, but I wasn't sure, so I emailed them to ask. Here is the email and Steiger's reply, you might find his suggestion helpful.

Hi George,
Your description does indeed point to a broken main tube, in which case my window repair kit will not help you since your window bracket is still intact. The good news is that this problem can often be fixed very inexpensively.
The type of repair that I recommend in this situation is to use a piece of heavy guage wire to basically build an "exoskeleton" for the main tube. You want to tie the regulator together on both sides of the break such that the tube will be unable to pull away from the motor housing. One way to do this is to use hose clamps on either side of the break to fasten the wire to the main tube. (Since the tube has a rather small diameter, you may find it helpful to use some larger diameter tubing to place over the main tube to give the hose clamps a larger diameter to grab onto.
If the break has happened very close to the motor housing, there will probably not be enough room for hose clamps on the housing side of the break, however you can run the wire to one of the mounting bolts instead. Here is a photo showing the type of repair I am talking about:
http://www.steigerperformance.com/Regul ... Repair.jpg The regulator pictured is for a Cherokee as opposed to a Liberty, but they are very similar and the idea is the same.
In the meantime, you can still use the window if you push down on the glass while you lower the window with the switch. The window will go back up as normal without any external assistance, its just in the down direction where the spiral cable wants to come out. (This assumes of course that the spiral cable hasn't come ALL the way out of the regulator and thus the window motor has no grip on it.)
I hope that helps! Should you have any questions or if I can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thanks!
