So, It appears that Jeep fails to listen to customer feedback.

When Jeep has to be sold out to another manufacturer, due to poor sales figures, I wonder who the CEO will blame?
- Probably the state of the economy, legislation, Unions.

If this is a problem that Jeep won't fix, will they be liable for stolen equipment out of mine? Laptop, GPS, CB, Stereo equipment, Flashlights, Tools etc.

TOYOTA is looking better all the time !!

If you leave your GPS, laptop, etc in your car with the windows down, that's your own problem and/or fault.

Go buy your Rising Sun heap of boring Camry-lookin-like poop. Jeeps aren't Toyotas, and they aren't priced like them. Deal with it.

I think it's funny that you brought up finger-pointing from the CEO in your post. Who's going to be liable for your crap getting stolen? ONLY YOU AND THE THIEF! why would you blame ANYBODY else?

Yeah, my car manufacturer made a crappy window regulator...the window fell down, but I left my $1500 laptop, $500 GPS unit, and $50 maglite and $900 worth of tools in my truck even though the window won't roll up AND IT GOT STOLEN! BECAUSE OF THE MANUFACTURER! NOT BECAUSE OF ANY OF MY OWN DOING, NOT BECAUSE A DISHONEST PERSON WALKED BY, BUT BECAUSE THE PEOPLE THAT BUILT MY VEHICLE FIVE YEARS AGO!

Think about how ridiculous that sounds.

My point is; is that if I have this stuff in my car and leave the vehicle locked with windows up and then return to find all my stuff gone, with the window down due to a failed regulator. Who's at fault then?

Why would anybody leave their car unlocked? That's just asking for trouble.
Silly comment, Junkie.

I think it is a very logical comment. How about coming out from a movie theater and your car is flooded due to a major thunder storm?. The bottom line is that these regs absolutely suck! AFTERMARKET quality would be appreciated...

I had the retaining clips on the drivers front, the ones that hold the glass, come loose and jjust last week I had the Drivers rear get replaved under warrantee.

The price you paid is what gets me.

If it is not under warrantee, WHY ON GOD's GREEN EARTH ARE YOU TAKING IT TO THE STEALERSHIP????? With all the posts on here about how to replace it yourself, WHY pay them that much to do something that is a cheap part and some time?

I guess I could say "Because I felt like it". I think the posts you are talking about are in this thread. You quoted the first message in this thread.

Hey Group,

After my second broken window regulator, I did a bunch of searches and checked out all the web sites that you guys suggested. What I came up with was that I can get a replacement regulator from the dealer for $183 and I don't need a glass. My driver side broke about two years ago and the dealer fixed it for about $400. Now my passenger side spiral cable is poking out and it looks like the same thing is wrong. The plastic tude that retains the spiral cable failed. This didn't look like the kind of problem that the repair kit from Steiger Performance would fix, but I wasn't sure, so I emailed them to ask. Here is the email and Steiger's reply, you might find his suggestion helpful.

Hi George,

Your description does indeed point to a broken main tube, in which case my window repair kit will not help you since your window bracket is still intact. The good news is that this problem can often be fixed very inexpensively.

The type of repair that I recommend in this situation is to use a piece of heavy guage wire to basically build an "exoskeleton" for the main tube. You want to tie the regulator together on both sides of the break such that the tube will be unable to pull away from the motor housing. One way to do this is to use hose clamps on either side of the break to fasten the wire to the main tube. (Since the tube has a rather small diameter, you may find it helpful to use some larger diameter tubing to place over the main tube to give the hose clamps a larger diameter to grab onto.

If the break has happened very close to the motor housing, there will probably not be enough room for hose clamps on the housing side of the break, however you can run the wire to one of the mounting bolts instead. Here is a photo showing the type of repair I am talking about:

http://www.steigerperformance.com/Regul ... Repair.jpg

The regulator pictured is for a Cherokee as opposed to a Liberty, but they are very similar and the idea is the same.

In the meantime, you can still use the window if you push down on the glass while you lower the window with the switch. The window will go back up as normal without any external assistance, its just in the down direction where the spiral cable wants to come out. (This assumes of course that the spiral cable hasn't come ALL the way out of the regulator and thus the window motor has no grip on it.)

I hope that helps! Should you have any questions or if I can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanks!

While backing out of the drive this Memorial day morning, my 4th window regulator decided to fail.
Interestingly enough, I was on the way to the dealer because my A/C went out Saturday. At least
I will get two things fixed for the price of one with my warranty deductible. So far this is the third trip
to dealer service dept. this year for other issues not related to the window. I will be finding my
Liberty a new home BEFORE the warranty runs out.

I did an emergency repair on an '04 right front regulater.

Drill 4 holes, 2 pieces of steelwire and your back in bussines. It even goes up and down. (don't know for how long!) Took this from our site so there is some Spanish here, sorry. The holes I drilled are a bit big, that's because we tried zip-ties first but that didn't work.

Here is the Steiger repair kit, http://www.steigerperformance.com/ what I indicated is what breaks on the plastic.

Replacing the complete regulator with an oem unit makes little sense, the construction is so wrong that you will have the same problem over and over. The plastic wears everytime you open or close a window. Untill it's worn so thin it cracks and can no longer hold the cable in place. Down goes your window...

Steiger is your best (and cheapest) option imo...or maybe a piece of steel wire and a friend who pays for his repairs with beer...dunno...Image

 I just got a letter from Chrysler about the broken regulator problem. It seems they are going to be doing some kind of reimbursment program.
The letter says something about being covered for 7 years. Can someone scan one and post it? yes cut out the part that shows your address.

Like I really saved all those bills. Bought one on Ebay from a guy in Miami 2 years ago? Hummm you think my credit card would list it?

You can add me to the list. 2006 Renegade second failure of the left rear window. I called Chrysler Customer Support about it. The reimbursed me $391 for my first repair and called me back to say that the second would be covered under the new extended warranty. I called the dealership and they told me the repairs would be covered. When I brought it in on 12/29, they said that the repairs were not covered because my VIN was not listed in the Warranty. The warranty is numbered X27 that states in bold and underlined that it is for select 2006 and 2007 models. I called Chrysler again and they told me that it was covered and to have the repairs made. I tell the dealer what they said, and the service manager and I speak to Customer Support together. Chrysler first tells the Service Manager that it is an authorized warranty repair, so he asks who is going to pay for it. She then tells him that I should pay for the repair and see about a possible reimbursement later, if I qualify. I told her that I refuse to pay for a repair that I was told four different times was covered. She said that they would issue a PA (Prior Authorization) for the repair and call to inform me when to bring it in to the dealer. Needless to say that I have not heard back from either one and my window is still not fixed.

Well I bought a 2007 used jeep off the dealer lot with 20000 miles here in South Texas and the day i pick it up the rear driver side window just falls down. They say they will repair it for free but come on the first day i get this jeep and this happens. Oh well. Hopefully someone comes up with a good way to fix it. If not I will just take apart the door and put a piece of wood holding the glass up. Never use the rear windows anyway.

Instead of a piece of wood, I pushed the window up into place and zip-tied the track it slides in. It has held for three months now. I also unplugged the regulator so that nobody would try to roll it down.

Both rear windows are kaput. They died within a few weeks of each other. About six months ago I pulled the regulator assemblies out and put a screw through the track to hold the window permanently in the up position. And I unplugged the regulator motors.

Eventually I’ll get around to doing the Steiger repair. Unless Jeep gets around to announcing a recall before then, I won’t even attempt to work through the dealership (aka den of thieves) for this.
