What you got are not true HIDs......

True HID headlights have ballast, igniters and the bulbs.

Are you sure that those will fit the libbys headlights?

Its very easy to adjust the headlights on the kj. Just wait till you get them to see if they need to be adjusted any.

There is a screw on too of the head light that you can see if you open your hood. I forget if you need to tighten it or loosen it to move them up or down.. :? I had to do mine after the lift. It raised the rear more then it did the front, but then the rear settled and I never fixed them back. I can see for miles. Feel sorry for other drivers on the road.

There is a write up in the Audio / GPS section on HID's... Lots of good talking points in that thread.

I see it in the description but the picture does not show a true ballast. IIRS each unit will have its own. And Xenon is not a gas typically used in an HID system. I just think you would see similar benefit from upgrading to silverstars, unless you just gotta have purple headlights.....

Hello, I have HID's in my KJ.

I paid $105.00 USD plus $45.00 shipping and are the kind that have Xenon for Low, and Halogen for High, so you don't loose the highs/running lights

Yes, it's very bright, actually too bright, adjusting them down really causes more problems than good, mainly because you loose
vision ahead on highways or dark roads.

What I did and seems to semi work, I took the headlight assembly out and stuck a pair of needle nose pliers in and pulled back the silver "nose" cap
about 3/4" to limit the xenon output . I also filed/ leveled off the drivers light the side edge of the 2 bolt mounts, which makes it point just a fraction more to centre.

I adjusted the drivers side down, and the pass side to normal, to light up the distance.

Still, the amount of light is substancial!., it may cause a problem when it rains but I will find out soon.
Also, its obvoiusly not a self leveling system either.

No flashes from other drivers and seems to be tolarable by other drivers, believe me I see lots of poorly adjusted light myself.

Actually Xenon gas IS used in automotive HID systems, not because the manufacturers have too but just because it is a gas that excites to the right temperature and output in a short time.
Halogen or many other gasses used in an arc based ignition system have a long warm up time some as long as 2-3 minutes.
There's many variants of HID including Halogen but also Mercury vapor and the common Sodium vapor which are mainly used in residential or commercial applications not on cars.

HID with Xenon is also the most energy efficient !.

You guys are the best. Thanks for putting my worries to ease. A fellow member on here who lives literally 10 minutes away from me wil be helping me install these.....

One last question, Does anyone have any pictures of where you mounted your ballasts in the engine compartment? ALso, anyone having any kind of problem with the conversion(etc burnt wires, throwing codes, breaking the reflectors?)

Once again Thank you guys so much.

KEith

Drivers side, just between fuse box and battery

[img][/img]

Pass side, industrial velcro to air box

[/img]Image

The fogs I also have in HID, was a little bit more work for the ballasts to find a good spot, I'll problably remove the HID's
from the fogs since the reflector design is pretty much hopless for fog or any other use either in halogen or HID, too much light going up.

My bad on the Xenon guys. There are just so many rip offs out there for these HID systems. I would hate to see anyone get taken, that's all. So does this kit look like the real deal for under $200?? That is a really low price.

Just a note to everyone. Xenon IS a halogen gas; along with Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton and Radon. So anything made with Xenon filling the bulb/capsule is halogen lighting.

In fact, even the common lightbulb used at home is technically a halogen. The standard lightbulbs are usually filled with Argon gas. The lightbulbs commonly advertised as 'halogen' are usually filled with Krypton or Xenon gases.

Point of Chemistry
Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton, Xenon and Radon are the Noble/ Inert gases - full electron shell -very stable
Halogens are the reactive ions missing 1 electron to have a full shell - Flourine, Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine. - very reactive

and I think High intensity lights are not Halogen - I think they're actually a flouresent which is why you need a ballast to initiate an arc.
'Halogen' lights have a Tungsten filament that is constantly reacting with the gas.

You guys are right on the technical details of lighting, but I'm sure we're all just confusing the hell out of the original poster...

Hallmarks of HID lighting (for automobiles):

-uses 35 watts of power (not 55 watts like standard halogen systems); there is however a high-output HID system with 55 watts of power (expect to pay $400 or more for this on ebay)

-HID bulbs have no filament in the capsule where light is emitted

-systems use an integrated ballast and igniter, or separate ballast and igniter

-a pair of HID bulbs will currently cost you around 80-100 US dollars

-fitting an HID kit to a car that uses the existing halogen reflectors still makes the lighting system MUCH brighter than normal; many people are under the impression that unless HID lighting is mated to projector lenses that it isn't "true" HID lighting --obviously the light is true HID, but the reflector was not designed for the threefold light output, which is really the factor in question for those unapproving of HID kit upgrades; retrofitting projector lenses with one's HID kit upgrade is the best way to go for the most evenly distributed light output

You might also want to check whether your vehicule is allowed to be modified to have HID's. It's one of those little anyoning things, believe it or not many localities will not allow you to have HID's unless the vehicule marque had an option from the factory.
