 If you can send me really good blueprints, I can make just about anything. Except, we don't have a decent pipe/tubing bender so I can't help with tubing much, other than turning/boring/threading it.

I would never thought of looking for the "Pre-Run" where you posted it. I'd suggest moving it to the Safari thread. Nice pics. We were supposed to be up there this week, but rescheduled for Sep. We were there last July and the wild flowers were awesome. And yeah, we ran into rain after doing Imogene and going left up the trail to Yankee Boy last year. In fact we ran into rain almost every afternoon for an hour or so the week we were there. What do you think of the Massey and Wilson book? Are there many more different trails than in the Wells book to make it worthwhile to purchase it? My experience with the Massey and Wilson Arizona and Utah books are they are too detailed with directions almost every 1/10 a mile or so. They also seem to break down trails into smaller trails letting you piece together what you want to do. |

Yo durangotang... are you ought there? It's been a week and no response to my post above. Must be busy, eh? Anyway, what's your opinion of the Massey and Wilson book before i plunk down the money to get one? Are there any trails that are not in the Wells book worth doing? It's been my experience Massey and Wilson break down trails into many smaller ones and provide way too many trail attributes. It seems like every 2/10th of a mile or so they give you a SO, TL, TR, BL or a BR. Spend more time trying to follow along with the book than see were your going... at least that's the case for my navigator. |

Yes it has more trails... yes they are all worth doing. As far as directions... I don't know. I have both books and they are used to find the trailhead. After that book gets tossed in the back seat. |

Hi Guys, I'll be in Ouray August 22- August 26 of this year (2008). We hope to run the major trails including Black Bear and Poughkeepsie Gulch. If anyone wants to join us as part of the planning for 2009 (or just to do the trails), we'll be leaving in a week for Colorado. Or I can collect some data and give you some trail condition reports if that will help.

durangotang... if you want help running the trails, how about posting up a list of trails you've already done. I got the Massey and Wilson book yesterday and already have the Wells book. We're going to be in Ouray 13-19 Sep and will post a report on the trails we run, if you haven't run them already. No need to waste time posting what you've already done. As I've mentioned before, I've already run most of the trails in Wells' book several times over the years. I plan on checking out some of the Massey and Wilson trails this time around as well as some of my Wells favorites. If you want help co-ordinating what trails that will be offered next year, let me know what I can do to help. If you have a handle on it, that's cool too, and I'll just butt out.... AZ |

I would say that you should just head down there and have a blast on your trip running trails. Regardless of whether or not I have run a trail before I still think you should post the report. If you happen across somewhere you think should definitely be run then let me know... Really the only things I still need to run are small side roads that I've found but haven't had a chance to see where they go. |

Well, it looks like you've got all the bases covered. And yes, we always do enjoy our trips up there. They all are worth being run. Oh, one question... we've run Stony Pass and turned around as that was as far as the Wells book went. What's the rest of the trail like on out Hwy 149 as in the Massey and Wilson book? Just wondering if it was worth the extra miles and then have to turn around and re-trace the route to get home. Thanks for your input. |

We may run it in it's entirety, during the day. It'll be an all day trip for sure with stops for lunch and photo ops. But that's nothing new... we spend all day on the trails no matter which ones we run. |

AZKJ: Not sure if you guys are still heading up this way but I don't thin kI'll be able to make it for the runs... some tranny problems are a looming and I don't want to risk a breakdown up high. Have an awesome time though!! |

Planning is going as well as can be expected... I'm pretty sure everyone knows what city we're going to
Trails really aren't going to be sorted until closer to the date. Even then, we generally decide each morning what everyone wants to run and people go in a few different directions. This spring I'll start shmoozing the potential trail leaders... other than that I think we are ready to rock and roll... BTW... your trip looked like a blast, wish I could have made it! You should see what velocity basin looks like just now (the bowl just out of silverton above the active mine) I was snowboarding there this last weekend on about 4-5 feet of snow! |
