Front coil/strut assembly during lift.

I'm trying to find the best place to have the coils compressed for the lift install. Anyone in Cbus area have any recommendations. I've spoken to Trails West...they aren't too far from me and said they can do it though they are busy though December.

I thought maybe Mduncan or Voodoo might have some ideas.

I really don't like the idea of using those screw type compressors to do it myself. I have the kind of luck where the spring would shoot off, not hurt me, but put a hole through my neighbors house...and his neighbors house and their dog.

The way things are going in my life right now, I'm probably going to have to put of the install untill early next year. Don't you just love how peaceful and quite the holidays are??! :banghead:

Any good alignment / front end shop should have a air powered wall mounted compressor.
Its the best way to do them, trust me I have seen the aftermath of not.

Or if you can get off on a Friday sometime,
2.25 hours up,
2.5-3.5 hours here
(including an alignment with a guy who has done almost all of the KJs that I have lifted, so used to doing a lifted one's), ,
2.25 hours home sitting HIGH

I wouldn't be too much help with where i got mine done, since i bought a franky mine came assembled.

however i have done struts 3 times. twice on a liberty with no issues. but it does take a while.

once on a car and I almost died.

so I don't think I will ever do it again. :-)r

but, I will tell you how to do it if you want to. I will bring my portable lexan blast shield to stand behind while watching you do it. :jester:

any good tire/alignment shop should do it for you. DO NOT GO TO FIRESTONE IN PICKERINGTON! THEY ARE USELESS!

Voodoo...you're words are so reassuring!

Shame about firestone...they used to be great when I was a kid then they all seemed to start falling apart. Wonder what happened?

blast shield isnt gonna help ya when it bounces off a ceiling rafter and comes down in the back of your head

I designed the blast shield to go overhead. it is shaped like a half dome...

an 8 bit dome.

me and a friend made it for various explosive and rocket experiments.

my luck would be that the top plate would fly off, bounce off 2 walls and ricochet into my blast shield from behind. where it would then embed itself in my gut.

I've always been a bit uneasy around spring compressors, particularly the portable "rental style" ones

back when I was working for quality oil, one of the mechanics came in off hours to put coils on his -whatever it was- "Thingymobile"

I was upside down between a isuzu box and the cab fixing a cab latch when the top plate hit the cab and busted the window, but not after jacking the guys face up, broke his nose, one of his eye sockets and his cheek and most of his top teeth

best we could figure was the shock hit him in the face and the top plate ricocheted off the tire machine, fella was in the hospital for like two weeks, by the time he got back to work i had gotten the uniform service to change all of his name tags to "Patches"

which was almost as good of a uniform prank as when one of the guys had a violent sneeze and launched one on one of the oil reps backs

had his name tags changed to "Booger"

It wasn't as much fun as you'd figure.. considering it was NC and .. well... people actually chose to go by those names for some reason there
