OK gang, the Moab countdown is in the double digits.

Who plans to go to MOAB?

I have asked Burchie to slate us for the Breakfast again on the freeday (wednesday). Last year we did not charge a set fee, and made out with enough to cover our costs plus some in just tips/donations, so I plan the same thing. Troyster got us some Cosco muffins, and Dave and I did a bunch of eggs and I did some firebrew coffee. It was a hit, and we were asked to do it again.
I plan to get some of the heating trays like the AZ guys gave us last year, and I am going to try to borrow a big coffee pot as well.

Next Item is Raffle donations:
Scour your favorite businesses, and lets see what we can get, or look around and we can see what we can buy for a reasonable price to throw in. Looks like right now I will only be able to make one grill clock, as I cannot find any others for a decent price.

The OK RV still has a few slots open for trailers, and some tent space is still open aswell.

So post here if you are 75% probable with the days you will be there as well.

Just cut and past here, and as for CO gang, hopefully we can convoy.

USAFCOP with mobile command post/mansion
Friday 4/20-Saturday/Sunday4/28 or 29 Heck, it is only a 6 hour drive home, Dave and I left Sunday last year...

You know I'll be there. MOAB BABY!!!

I'm keeping my eyes open for any hot deals on slickdeals.net. Last year I got a pair of high-quality folding camp chairs for $3 apiece shipped...but, idiot that I am, I didn't think to buy a few extra to use as raffle prizes. But other deals will come up.

By the way, I have $103.36 that belongs to the club. So I can either spend that on raffle prizes or send someone else a check so that they can buy them.

And I can pick up muffins again, if they worked out well last time. I had to come in to SLC on the day of the breakfast, so I wasn't there to see what was most popular, but I do seem to recall having a lot of muffins left over. I'm a big yogurt fan, so I could bring a flat of Dannon yogurt from Costco, too, if you think people would like it.

You've got to be joking. I know we've got more Rockies members going than just Ted and myself.

I was just looking at the raffle list. Wow. I'm thinking that our overall contribution might be better if we focus on the breakfast and not worry about contributing to the raffle (except Ted's grille clocks, of course--they're sure to be a huge hit again). The little prizes we contributed last year worked out pretty well, but they might look kind of weak compared to the other stuff being raffled off this year.

On the other hand, maybe we can find some real bargains and still be able to make a little splash. It's all good. :)

So, who's going???

I'll be there...for a few days. I can't stay the whole time this year. My Air National Guard unit is having an inspection at the end of April and we have to be there for Thursday and Friday. Means I need to leave Wednesday morning.

Breakfast was a big hit but we did have a lot of leftovers and the donations more than covered what we paid.

I may be able to make it as it's looking promising this year but so did last year. Once we get a little closer I'll be able to give a more solid answer.

Well, I'm hoping you can make it--your KJ is one of my all-time favorites, so I'd like to see it in person. I'm hoping to paint mine Jeep yellow, Rhino-line the fenders and rocker panel, get an after-market front bumper (RL), and get 4.10 gears installed some day. Not exactly like yours, but some of the same basic ideas.

Thanks,I really hope I can make it.I think yellow would look really good on a KJ.I originally was going to paint my KJ a very bright Lamborghini yellow but my buddy wouldn't let me because he was painting his '70 Demon that same color,so I went to plan "B" the lambo orange it's painted now.It takes ahwile to get everything done the way you want it but 2 deployments helped me along a little faster.

Troy, did you get your Moab scar/souvenir fixed?

You mean my "badge of honor"? Heck, no!

If I ever get it repainted, though, I'll get it fixed. I got two quotes from local body shops for $1,500. I'd much, much rather spend that on a RL front bumper and some Cooper STTs. Maybe a set of RE LCAs... :)

In case anyone is wondering what Dave is talking about...

I bought a grille off ebay for $50, so I now have one red and one steel blue (I would really prefer not to use this one, it is my deer insurance) So if anyone else sees cheap grilles, I want one more hopefully 2. Otherwise, I will build these 2 for the raffle, and we won't have one to give to the park.

I have an extra grill, that I am going to throw away. It's slight ripple due to sitting next to a hot lamp for too long. I replaced it because I found someone selling a new one locally for 10 dollars. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have paid over 100 dollars for a new one. It's khaki in color.

If you want it just send me a PM. I going to end up tossing it soon, I need to clean out the garage.

It is looking like I will be able to go for at least a little while. I might have to do some RL front bumper testing. Marty asked me if he could use my 05 for his mock up and prototype. I jumped at the chance ofcourse. So with that my skids I will be installing soon and the skink sliders and diff cover I also got from RL I should be ready to go.

I was kicking the idea of going. I just moved to Utah and I know this is a popular event. I don't know anyone in UT and I thought that this would be a cool way to meet others. I do have reservations about the trip however:

My KJ (which I've owned for 3 weeks) is bone stock. I know that there would be tons of modifications needed to participate. I am not even sure where to begin with this.

I never driven off road before and frankly, some of the pics and videos I've seen scare the crap out of me. I especially remember a pic of a KJ turning on a narrow path at high elevation with only inches between it and the allmighty.

Welcome. Don't be afraid to go just because you have a stock KJ. There are two trails being run per day, so there is something for everyone. Being new to the offroad world, it would be good for you to meet everyone, maybe learn some tips and tricks to help with your future build (if there is one), and there will be a lot of empty front seats, hop in with someone and just enjoy the ride and learn how the vehicles react on the trails and how your spotter, if needed, is a very important tool, especially on those hairy obstacles you see in the pictures. It will be a great learning experience for you, and my best advise to anyone is to learn your rig and your own capabilities in novice form, and build the jeep as you build your abilities. Treat your jeep like a girlfriend. In most cases (although anything is possible anymore) you have to date and get to know a woman before you start buying her implants.:D Many people make the mistake of making a very capable rig right off the bat and have no experience to bring it to its full potential, and those are the ones that break things easily and roll down those silly little obstacles.

Welcome. Don't be afraid to go just because you have a stock KJ.

Seriously...you of ALL people should go! I don't know exactly where in Utah you are, but you're a maximum of 6 hours away (if you live in Logan), and this is a great opportunity to start feeling comfortable driving your KJ offroad.

Plenty of people take their bone stock KJs to Moab. There are great trails for everyone.

Where do you live? If you're in Salt Lake or Utah County, we've had some really fun get-togethers over the past couple of years, although we haven't been able to get enough critical mass to have regularly-scheduled runs. I'd love it if we could change that.

Are you going to be at EJS? I'll be there the last few days (4/4-4/7). I'll be doing Golden Spike on Wednesday (non-sanctioned), taking a day off to go sightseeing with the family on Thursday, Kane Creek on Friday, and Steel Bender on Saturday.

You should come out. I am not into hard-core off-roading, and in fact, I was bone stock until just a few months ago when I got a lift and some new tires. I went out on one of the outings with the other UT guys while I was stock and had a great time.

I don't know if I can make it to Moab anymore as I am looking to graduate this year and don't want to fail my last few classes because of a Moab trip. Because of that - I never made any reservations and even if I just come down for the weekend I may be SOL.

What do you think Troy? I still might like to come if I could find a place or someone to "share" a campground with.
