Hello all.

Got the complete OME kit with hd springs from Rocky-Road outfitters. It's supposed to be arriving some time today... YAY! :pepper:

Had a few questions though.

[1]Didn't get the front springs/struts pre-assembled. Wondering if that perhaps was a mistake, seeing now that "it includes strut top caps and spring isolators". What other parts, pieces, and/or odds n ends might a need? Spring iso? Stut craps? Plates? Or am I in-fact, good to go like we thought when ordering the "kit" parts wise?

[2] Chosen shop (only reputable 4x4 shop I know of in my immediate area (jeep specific too and they for sure do good work)) quoted me at $850 for parts installation and alignment service. Said it would take them two days to complete. They do tend to be lil' expensive, but that seems rather expensive for just the labor. What do you all think?
Should I look out side my immediate area? Don't mind a lil bit o f a drive.

[3] How hard is the installation? We have a friend that would try and do the install for us for $250, they have done and assisted with a few pick-ups and a (non jeep) SUV or two. They claim to have all the needed tools like spring compressors and what not. Also have another friend that did a really nice VERY tall custom lift of his truck and several lifts for his friends that would be willing to help us for free when he isn't too busy (has a lot work related time constraints, some times). I know just as alignment averages around $80-99 at shops in this area. Being a bit new at this, kind of want it done right the first time... I used to be pretty handy at working on lots of older sports cars, but that was like 10 or more years ago...

[4] Would really like to get the clevis lift too try and get that extra ~inch for max safe lift, not sure if really necessary, and of coarse want the extra inch or so... But worry the about cost and shipping times from forgotten or incorrect parts. Like brake line relocation and such.... That $850 install is all-ready starting to put things a lil' bit out of reach... I know we need top plates, 4-8 conduit nuts (usually 6) and I think 4 rear spring isolators. I read some needed an extra 1 or 2 for leveling, so 5-6 intotal some times... But how meany TOP iso's and how many LOWER iso's are needed?

I know we wouldn't want to bother with doing the cleavis lift after the fact at all... or at-least for a long while. Lol. I got another truck for my self that I really want to get work on, this is for meh girly and really want ever thing perfect for her... Have a lot of work ahead of me on my project so I'd LOVE not to have to revisit the suspension issue for her on tell its time to replace the upper controll arms with JBA's. Would do it now, but we JUST put new OME UCA's, upper, and lower ball joints in a few months back...

Thanks every body for all your help! And your honest opinions about what the best steps moving forward would be.

Y'all are grate! :JEEPIN:

I had a local shop install mine, plus the JBA UCAs for $350. They had it all day, but I think the actual work was about three hours including the alignment (I checked on it at lunch time and it hadn't been started yet). I provided them the springs, struts, shocks, and UCAs. They reused the rest of the OEM parts and gave me back the springs, struts, and shocks they took out.

:JEEPIN:

Well all the friends flaked...
Ended having it installed and allied for $380 out the door, could have it stalled for 150 then take it for a alignment for 60 but didn't have the time. Thanks guys!

In hind sight, wish I got the top plates... Has this lil' rake to it I don't like.
Oh well. Something to do later, pro'lly, when the ball joints go out. Good a excuse as any to go back for some more lift! :goink:
Not really needed though.

Lift is GRATE though!!! Will get some pictures for you guys soon.
Almost forgot to come back. :-)r

Now to figure out what tires I can slap under there! Lol

How big can I go with out pinch weld hammering with OEM rims? Do I need spaces? (Don't mind getting some just need to know first)
Having a hard time finding the answer with search. It keeps bringing up OEM rims no lift, or lift with not OEM rims and different back spacing the stock rims...

Was thinking some 45/75/16 or 45/70/16's something or ether nice looking and on sell.
Would like the wider tires if possible, think the guy said they were 30.5 to 30.8 in.

Worried anything bigger would be a no-go. Will probably have to venture out to post teh tire area...

First good luck with the RRO lift
What springs did you get from them, hopefully the right ones, they are not always good about that
As far as tire size you'll need to stick to 245-70-16s, 255-70-16s , getting into larger sizes will require a regear
like mentioned 30.5 tall etc
No matter if CRD or not

All Old Man Emu struts/shocks and springs. Got the CRD HD springs. Was the same part numbers.
They came from Australia... Took a while.

Why, whats the problem?

Ok so the wider 45/75/16 would need a re-gear but 245/70/16 and 255/70/16 do not?
Thanks, I wouldn't want to re-gear at this time. I do have 3.73 gears right?
Tire calc website says I'd get a lil' better MPG with the 245/75/16 with 3.73 gears, but 240/70/16 would still be in "factory" range.... Thanks for any input Tom!

Measured the jeep, basically 20" from center rim to fender in the front and 21" in the back.

Thinking about doing the exact project. How do you like the ride? What tires did you go with? Any pics?

The 245/75/16 is 30.5 inches tall, and the 245/70/16 is 29 inches tall. Basically your engine has to work harder to turn the taller tire, so it uses more gas. I have 245/75/16 Duratracs and I love the look and the handling, but it gets 2 mpg less than the stock 225/75/16's (29 inches tall), regardless of lift. I can't imagine going to 32's without regearing.

Hey all.

Sorry seawheeler. Missed your post and forgot to update.

The ride is really just amazing... I mean seriously.

I went with 245/75/16's on stock rims. Bigger then I really wanted (not complaining) but way cheaper then anything else ($75 each). They BARELY fit. Not rubbing the pinch welds, but barely fit. Definitively NEEDS spacers in rear, maybe extended bump stops too maybe. Not sure yet, but probably recommended with these size tires. Need to check with the spacers to say for sure. Front could use them as it does rub a touch ontop when stuffed but not problematic. Front's problem is mostly the lip behind bumper when reversing fully locked. Annoying, but i haven't fixed it yet... so not too bad.

Ripped out the plastic on the right side in the rear... grabbed that liner pretty good with inside of the tire. Was in a hurry to beat the sunset somewhere, long story short. Was meaning to check it out more before getting a bit aggressive off road... :-)r :ROTFL: I knew better. Lol, but still did it anyway.

You can see some pics here.

Top plates from RRO and UCA's from JBA have been added since. I'll try to remember to add new pics to this thread.

Eddit: Also get slightly bettet mpg with these size tires and no regearing. About 22mpg city with full torque GDE eco tune. Like 21.5 to 22. Usually drive a bit conservatively.
